Terra Classic Set To Lose Terra Station Support

Recent developments indicate that the Terra Classic network is set to lose Terra Station support and will have to make some quick, costly, and inconveniencing adjustments.

Terraform Labs’ transition of the Terra Station wallet to Interchain Station could effectively end support of the Terra Classic network by December 15, as disclosed in a tweet today by Classy, a community influencer, and confirmed by a TFL staff.

Notably, a Discord message from Terra Rebels admin ClanMudhorn shared by Classy explains why. As explained by ClanMudhorn, TFL says for Terra Classic to be supported on the new Interchain Station, Terra Classic has to change its wallet prefix, which it shares with LUNAv2.0 by December 15. TFL says the move is necessary as it will use wallet prefixes to identify which chain to send transactions to on the wallet, which plans to host several Cosmos chains.

However, as explained by the Terra Rebels Admin, it is a task that, to their knowledge, has never been undertaken before, and developers estimate it will take at least six months. Consequently, it could force the Terra Classic network off Station.

It bears mentioning that, as explained by Jared, a TFL staff in response to Classy, while this is the likely outcome, TFL is still working to find alternatives.

At the moment, Classy and the Terra Rebels believe the only practical solution is to transition to Rebels Station, but there’s a catch. As disclosed by @reXxTerraRebels, AKA reXx, in response, the Terra Rebels have launched a community spending proposal to separate Rebel Station from TFL infrastructure to maintain Terra Classic’s wallet access.

However, per the proposal, it is expected to take two months and cost $150,000. In addition, the Terra Rebels say there will be more spending proposals regarding the Rebel Station.

While it may prove inconvenient for some and would put a dent in the Terra Classic community pool, Rebel Station still provides a familiar user interface to Terra Station, as highlighted by Jared. In addition, as previously reported, it is very easy for users to transition their wallets to the Rebel Station by using their mnemonic phrases or importing their private keys.

However, Rebel Station is currently only available on the web, desktop, and as a Chrome extension. While a mobile app is in development, per the previous report, it is awaiting licensing.

It bears mentioning that the latest development comes despite assurances to the contrary by Do Kwon. Furthermore, while the Terra Rebels initially planned on moving the network away from TFL infrastructure, this certainly speeds up the timeline. Jared asserted that TFL only knew this change was necessary on November 26.
