XRP enthusiasts believe the SEC wants to distance itself from Hinman ahead of the release of Hinman’s emails.

With only eight days left before Hinman’s emails are released to the public, the SEC has removed a significant part of William Hinman’s biography from its website.

Before now, Hinman’s biography on the SEC’s website includes vital details about the former director of SEC’s Corporation Finance, especially his employment history.

However, his biography on the SEC website only shows that Hinman was the former director of SEC’s Corporation Finance division from May 2017 to December 2020.

Is SEC Planning to Throw Hinman Under the Bus?

The development has sparked reactions among XRP community members, who are waiting patiently for the release of Hinman’s emails.

Many XRP enthusiasts assert that the SEC is preparing to throw Hinman under the bus as it prepares to release an unredacted version of Hinman’s emails in the next eight days.

Hinman’s Docs Controversy

It is worth noting that Hinman’s emails have become an essential part of the SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit. Recall that shortly after the SEC charged Ripple with violating U.S. securities laws, the prominent blockchain company requested the drafts of Hinman’s 2018 speech to bolster its fair notice defense.

During his 2018 speech, Hinman declared Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) as non-securities but didn’t address the legal status of XRP, despite its position among the top three cryptocurrencies at the time.

The SEC did everything within its power not to surrender Hinman’s documents to Ripple. However, the commission’s efforts to keep Hinman’s docs sealed yielded no result. Last month, Judge Analisa Torres denied SEC’s motion to seal the content of Hinman’s emails.

Following a joint request for a one-week extension, the court ruled that the parties should unseal Hinman’s emails and other summary judgment materials on June 13, 2023.
