Optimism Begins Third Airdrop Distributes 19.4M OP Tokens To 31K Addresses

Optimism has allocated 19.4 million OP tokens to 31,870 addresses in the Airdrop 3 event.

Optimism, the second-largest scaling solution on Ethereum, has announced its third major airdrop. Airdrop 3 was announced just days after Optimism distributed unclaimed funds from the first airdrop.

In Airdrop 3, Optimism allocated 19,411,313 OP tokens worth approximately $27 million. According to the team, 31,870 unique addresses were recipients of Airdrop 3.

The airdrop began on Monday, September 18, at 18:10 (UTC). According to the report, OP tokens will be disbursed directly to eligible wallets in Airdrop 3.

Eligibility for Optimism Airdrop 3

Like Airdrop 2, Airdrop 3 was a reward for positive governance participation. There are no token claims page for Airdrop 3. As a result, Optimism has warned community members of sites asking them to claim rewards.

Eligible participants for Airdrop 3 include users who have delegated tokens between January 20 and July 20, 2023. Only users who delegated a minimum of 180 OP tokens were eligible. Bonuses were given to addresses who voted at least once in on-chain proposals during the eligibility period. 

These addresses received a 2x multiplier for their rewards. Optimism capped the airdrop to 10,000 OP tokens per address to ensure the token distribution was fair. The token distribution rewards Optimism users who have supported the network’s governance through delegation. 

Why the Wave of Airdrops?

At its launch in June 2019, Optimism committed to distributing 19% of its token supply through airdrops. The airdrops aim to distribute tokens to addresses that positively impact the Optimism community.

Optimism has conducted three airdrops so far. However, more than 13% (about 570 million OP tokens) of the initial supply remains for future Airdrops. 

The Optimism token, OP, currently trades at $1.41, gaining 4.93% over the last 24 hours. According to DeFiLlama, Optimism has 190 protocols on its network and a TVL of over $649 million.
