XRP Handles 8M+ x402 Payments in 30 Days as AI Agent Activity Accelerates

XRP Ledger processed more than 8 million x402 payments in 30 days as AI-agent activity expands across XRP, RLUSD, and a growing merchant network.

The XRP Ledger has processed more than 8 million x402 payments over the past 30 days, according to Chandler Fang, co-founder of t54.ai and a former product lead at Ripple.

The activity adds another data point to XRPL’s rapidly expanding role in machine-to-machine payments using XRP and RLUSD.

Fang described XRPL as one of the leading networks for x402 payments, pointing to the latest transaction count as evidence that autonomous payment activity is moving beyond early testing.

The live XRPL AI Hub now tracks more than 12.7 million transactions all-time, alongside 164 registered merchants. Its latest seven-day average stands around 350,460 payments per day.

XRPL x402 Activity Has Accelerated Quickly

The latest figure follows a rapid buildup over the past few months.

The Crypto Basic reported on Oct. 1 that XRPL had crossed 10 million x402 payments, less than three months after reaching its first million.

Fang’s latest 30-day figure provides another way of looking at that growth. More than 8 million payments in one month works out to an average above 266,000 transactions per day. The live hub’s higher seven-day average suggests activity has remained elevated more recently.

The hub currently records 6,928.5 XRP and 11,318 RLUSD settled across the ecosystem on an all-time basis. The large transaction count relative to the amounts transferred reflects the micropayment nature of many x402 use cases.

What x402 Does on the XRP Ledger

x402 is built around the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code. It allows software to encounter a paid service, receive machine-readable payment instructions, and settle the charge without sending a user through a conventional checkout process.

On XRPL, an AI agent can pay for an API call, data, model inference, or another digital service using XRP or RLUSD. A facilitator verifies the payment, submits it to the ledger, and returns a receipt that allows the agent to continue the request.

Ripple added x402 support to its XRPL AI Starter Kit in June, with t54 contributing the XRPL implementation. Settlement normally completes within several seconds, making the network suitable for repeated small-value payments.

Merchant Growth Becomes the Next Measure

Fang’s focus is now moving beyond transaction counts toward merchant adoption.

The XRPL AI Hub currently lists services spanning AI inference, crypto research, market intelligence, risk tools, and other paid APIs. The merchant directory shows more than 160 addresses receiving x402 payments.

That matters because recurring activity ultimately depends on agents having useful services to purchase. High transaction counts alone do not show how broad the underlying economy has become.

Still, the latest 30-day reading shows a clear increase in usage. After XRPL crossed 1 million agentic payments earlier this year and 10 million by October, more than 8 million x402 settlements in the latest month point to a much faster pace of activity.
