XRP Finally Completes Retest of 7-Year-Old Symmetrical Triangle Breakout

XRP has finally completed a retest of the symmetrical triangle breakout that occurred during the November 2024 market rally.

After enduring nearly a year of sustained selling pressure, XRP appears to be staging a rebound campaign that may set the stage for the next bull market. Notably, since July 2026, the token has rallied by more than 54%, now looking to hold above $1.60 and leverage this area for the next leg up.

More importantly, this recent upward push appears to have marked the completion of a symmetrical triangle retest that XRP underwent during the bear market that began in August 2025.

XRP’s 7-Year Symmetrical Triangle

For context, this symmetrical triangle formed when XRP collapsed from the $3.31 peak in January 2018 and continued to see massive declines for years. The asset attempted to break above the upper trendline during the rally to $1.96 in April 2021, but the resistance at this area capped its upward push.

While the rest of the market rose to new heights during this period, XRP failed to surpass the January 2018 peak of $3.31, drawing criticism from the investing community. Some analysts ascribed this underperformance to the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple, which began in December 2020 and led to sustained pressure on XRP.

Judge Torres delivered her final judgment in August 2024, as she confirmed a year earlier that XRP was not a security in itself. With the legal baggage removed, XRP joined the November 2024 market rally after Donald Trump’s election win. This run allowed it to breach $1, eventually breaking above the symmetrical triangle.

XRP Completes Triangle Retest

This breakout allowed XRP to surge past the $2 and $3 price levels, soaring to an all-time high of $3.4 by January 2025 before pulling back to retest the $1.60 area. After this retest, XRP rebounded to clinch a new all-time high of $3.6 in July 2025.

However, from that point, bears took control of the market, as XRP’s bear market began in August 2025. By October 2025, the rest of the crypto market fell under selling pressure, and XRP was one of the victims, recording seven monthly declines out of eight by June 2026.

Interestingly, this extensive downward pull resulted in XRP retesting the symmetrical triangle breakout. By August 2026, XRP eventually dropped to $0.98, retesting the upper trendline of the triangle. Since then, the asset has continued to recover, now up more than 63%.

The monthly RSI has recovered as well, currently sitting at 50.97, which shows that XRP is in an uptrend that has not overextended. This allows more room for growth.

Moreover, the DMI confirms that the bullish trend is strong enough to sustain the uptick for now, as the ADX stands at 26.72, while the +DI holds around 22.9, above the -DI at 19.3. Now that the triangle breakout retest is complete, XRP could attempt to push toward new heights after conquering the resistance areas around $2 and $3.
