12-Year XRP Chart: XRP Returns to the Line That Unlocked Its 2024 Breakout

XRP’s weekly chart is showing a long-term setup that echoes the compression and breakout structure seen before its historic 2017 rally. After breaking a multi-year resistance line in late 2024, XRP has now pulled back toward the former breakout area while weekly momentum begins to recover.

The latest Bitstamp chart places XRP around $1.54, following a weekly range between $1.4656 and $1.5557. CoinMarketCap data currently places XRP near $1.50.

XRP longterm breakout retest structure

XRP First Triangle Preceded Its Historic 2017 Run

The setup stands out because it appears on a 12-year XRP chart, covering the asset’s major structures from 2014 through 2026. The same long-term resistance line that capped XRP for years was finally broken during the late-2024 rally.

That breakout came as XRP surged roughly 280% in Q4 2024, moving from below $1 to well above $2 within weeks. Price has now returned to the same broader breakout area, making the current retest important for XRP’s long-term structure.

The left side of the chart shows XRP forming a large symmetrical triangle between roughly 2014 and early 2017.

Price repeatedly printed lower highs against descending resistance while establishing higher lows along an ascending support line. Once XRP escaped that structure in 2017, the move eventually carried the asset from sub-cent levels toward its January 2018 peak near $3.40.

The current structure developed on a much larger scale.

After the 2018 peak, XRP spent years beneath another descending resistance line while long-term support gradually moved higher from the 2020 lows. Those two lines created another large compression pattern.

XRP finally broke above that resistance during the late-2024 rally. Ripple reported that XRP gained roughly 280% during Q4 2024, reaching about $2.70 by the end of November.

The rally later pushed XRP above the old $3.40 high, with price reaching around $3.66 in July 2025.

XRP Is Now Retesting the Larger Breakout Structure

The latest pullback has returned XRP toward the upper boundary of the multi-year triangle it previously escaped.

This is the most important part of the current setup.

Rather than falling back deep inside the old structure, XRP is attempting to hold above the former descending resistance line. The chart also marks a nearby green support area around the $1.40-$1.70 region, where price is currently trading.

A sustained hold in this area would preserve the long-term breakout. Above it, the chart shows the next major resistance zone around $3-$3.50, near the highs established during the previous advance.

If XRP instead loses the former breakout line, the long-term retest would weaken, and the rising lower boundary of the old triangle would become more relevant.

Weekly RSI Turns Higher

Momentum is also improving.

The chart places weekly RSI at 56.98, while its moving average stands at 43.62. RSI has recovered from near the 30 region and moved back above 50, while remaining below the commonly watched 70 overbought threshold.

This means momentum has strengthened without reaching the elevated readings seen during XRP’s previous major rallies.

The similarity with the 2014-2017 structure does not establish that XRP will repeat the scale of that historic move. However, the current chart leaves three levels in focus: the $1.40-$1.70 breakout-retest area, the former descending trendline beneath price, and the $3-$3.50 resistance zone above.
