Arthur Hayes Says AI Bubble Could Resemble 2008 Credit Crisis

Arthur Hayes TCB

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said the rapid expansion of investment in AI infrastructure resembles a real estate construction cycle rather than a conventional technology boom, warning that excessive spending on data centers could lead to a different type of market correction.

In a newly published essay titled Situationship, Hayes argued that heavy capital allocation to data centers and related infrastructure could cause any future AI bubble to resemble the 2008 global credit crisis more closely than the 2000 dot-com crash.

Hayes said that if such a downturn prompts central banks to adopt monetary easing and expand liquidity, those measures could help drive a renewed bull market for Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market.

Bitcoin was trading at $64,019 at the time of writing, up 1% over the previous 24 hours.
