Binance Gave Russia User Data Later Used in Terrorism-Financing Case, Reuters Reports

Binance handed Russian authorities customer identification and cryptocurrency transaction data in 2025 that was later used to pursue terrorism-financing charges against an IT specialist, Reuters reported, citing law-enforcement documents.

In particular, the records concerned Yuri Belenkiy, a Russian national accused of sending more than $700 in crypto to organizations linked to Ukraine’s military. He remains in detention in Russia awaiting trial. 

The disclosure involves Binance despite the crypto exchange announcing its full withdrawal from the Russian market in 2023.

Binance said it responds to lawful requests from law-enforcement agencies worldwide and handles them in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and privacy requirements.
