A Moscow court ordered BitRiver founder Igor Runets held in pretrial detention for two months, replacing his house arrest, as he faces allegations of large-scale fraud involving nearly RUB 1 billion.
According to investigators, a company controlled by Runets received full advance payment for cryptocurrency mining equipment ordered by a subsidiary of En+. Investigators allege that the company neither delivered the machines nor refunded the money.Â
BitRiver was previously Russia’s largest cryptocurrency-mining data center operator and ranked as the country’s top mining company by revenue.
