CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said congressional inaction on the Clarity Act would not stop the agency from pursuing crypto market structure regulations under current law.
The CFTC is evaluating potential digital asset rules as the legislation remains delayed in the Senate amid disputes over ethics provisions. The Clarity Act could give the agency primary regulatory authority over the digital asset market.
Separately, the CFTC is working to finalize rules governing prediction market event contracts.
The regulator has also opened a public consultation on “compute” futures linked to AI infrastructure. According to Selig, the CFTC and the Commerce Department are jointly developing standards for these products to ensure only appropriate contracts enter the market.
