Curve Founder Calls Pump.fun a ‘Casino of Scams’

Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov took aim at two prominent Solana ecosystem products, criticizing memecoin platform Pump.fun and the user experience of Phantom while offering a mixed assessment of the blockchain’s broader ecosystem.

In particular, Egorov called Pump.fun “a casino of scams called memecoins.” ClawPump co-founder Tomi204 pushed back on the criticism, arguing that Pump.fun provides the service while users themselves determine how it is used.

The exchange also turned to crypto wallets. Egorov said using a hardware wallet with Phantom delivered a worse experience than MetaMask. Tomi204 countered that Phantom may still be the best choice for average users.

Egorov subsequently broadened his criticism beyond Phantom, arguing that wallets and other software can deteriorate once they achieve market recognition.

On Solana itself, Egorov credited the network with supporting its ecosystem well, but said the strongest examples emerging from that ecosystem were not particularly strong.

PUMP, the Pump.fun’s native token, was trading at $0.002983 at the time of writing, up 83.5% over the past month.
