Ethereum Developers Draft ‘Tapered Issuance Burn’ Proposal; Aave Founder Warns It Could Hurt ETH Staking

Ethereum

Ethereum developers have circulated a draft proposal, dubbed “Tapered Issuance Burn,” that would tie validator issuance burns to the share of ETH staked on the network. Meanwhile, Aave founder Stani Kulechov warned the plan could weaken the economics of ETH staking.

Under the proposal, validator issuance would be progressively offset as staking participation increases, with issuance fully offset once about 50% of Ethereum’s total ETH supply is staked. The draft also includes an 18-month transition period and has not yet been assigned an official Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) number.

Kulechov argued the proposal would reduce ETH staking yields to levels no longer considered economically attractive, hurting institutional adoption and DeFi applications that rely on staking yields. He added that capital could shift toward competing yield-bearing assets and other blockchain networks.
