EU Agrees 21st Russia Sanctions Package, Extends Transaction Bans to More Crypto Platforms

european union

European Union member state envoys have agreed on a 21st package of sanctions against Russia, introducing broader restrictions on the country’s financial sector, cryptocurrency activities, and oil trade, according to Reuters.

The latest measures place 94 Russian financial institutions, including the Moscow Exchange, under full sanctions. The package also expands transaction bans to cover additional cryptocurrency platforms as the bloc continues to tighten financial restrictions linked to Russia.

For the first time, the sanctions target vessels supporting Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, a network of ships used to transport Russian oil outside Western restrictions.

In addition, the EU agreed to keep the price cap on Russian oil at $44.10 per barrel for the next 12 months, maintaining pressure on Moscow’s energy revenues under the bloc’s latest sanctions framework.
