Former FBI Supervisor Charged in Nearly $1 Million Alleged Crypto Theft

Former FBI supervisory special agent Patrick Steven Yaroch has been charged in a federal criminal complaint over allegations that he diverted cryptocurrency by exploiting internal FBI systems to access wallets associated with an adversarial country. Prosecutors allege the assets were transferred to cryptocurrency wallets under his control.

According to the complaint, Yaroch admitted carrying out about 10 unauthorized transfers beginning in late 2024. He estimated the total amount taken at less than $1 million, investigators said.

The complaint further alleges that Yaroch later deposited part of the cryptocurrency into the decentralized lending protocol Suilend to generate yield.
