Fortitude, the Digital Currency Group-owned cryptocurrency mining company focused on Zcash, has launched its first self-built mining facility in Nebraska, adding 12 megawatts (MW) of capacity as it expands its infrastructure and works to reduce production costs.

The new Nebraska facility increases Fortitude’s total mining capacity to more than 60 MW across seven operating locations, marking a milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.

Fortitude said the site is expected to operate with electricity costs of approximately $0.045 per kilowatt-hour. Combined with the deployment of next-generation mining hardware, the company expects its direct cash expense for each ZEC mined to decline by roughly 43%, from about $70 to around $40.

Separately, Fortitude is advancing plans to merge with HeartSciences, a Nasdaq-traded company, in a transaction designed to take the crypto miner public.
