Jeff Yan Says Hyperliquid Focuses on Zero-to-One Innovation, Not Copying Competitors

Hyperliquid is focused on developing products that do not yet exist rather than replicating features already available in the market, co-founder Jeff Yan said during an interview on the VALR podcast, outlining the project’s long-term product strategy.

Yan said the team’s objective is to achieve “zero-to-one” innovation rather than pursue feature parity with products already built by multiple competitors. He added that creating similar features is neither an exciting challenge nor something the team is willing to devote its full attention to.

To illustrate that philosophy, Yan pointed to HIP-3, describing it as a pioneering permissionless deployment framework that creates synergies among protocols, deployers, interfaces and exchanges. He said the model demonstrates how introducing entirely new infrastructure can strengthen collaboration across the ecosystem.

Yan also argued that breakthrough innovation cannot be driven by performance metrics alone. Instead, he said growth should be viewed as a downstream result of building something genuinely new, adding that Hyperliquid’s focus remains on identifying and developing the next “zero-to-one” opportunity.
