OKX Limits Claude Access After Account Suspension, Spends Up to $8M Monthly on AI

Crypto exchange OKX will route some of its artificial intelligence workloads to alternative models after restricting access to Claude for employees in Hong Kong and personnel traveling through China, Bloomberg reported.

The change follows a temporary suspension of OKX’s Anthropic enterprise account in early August. Access to the account was later restored, but OKX said earlier use may have fallen outside Anthropic’s regional access policies. 

Anthropic does not currently permit Claude to be used in mainland China or Hong Kong. 

The restrictions affect a company that has made AI a significant part of its internal operations. OKX has promoted the use of AI among employees and includes AI capabilities in performance evaluations.

OKX said its spending across major AI model providers totals about $6 million to $8 million per month.
