Foreign stablecoin issuers, including Tether, may have until July 2028 to comply with the requirements of the GENIUS Act or risk becoming ineligible for listing on U.S. centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, according to a CoinDesk report.Â
Under the proposed framework, affected issuers may be required to obtain OCC registration, adhere to U.S. asset-freeze and seizure directives, and potentially revise the reserve structure backing USDT to satisfy regulatory requirements.
The report noted that the compliance obligations are not yet final, as federal regulators are still developing the rules needed to implement the GENIUS Act. Until those rules are issued, the exact requirements and enforcement framework remain subject to regulatory guidance.
