U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration has discussed accumulating Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies but did not confirm any decision to increase government holdings.
Asked at an Aug. 19 White House event with technology industry leaders whether the administration planned to build sizable cryptocurrency holdings, Trump said he would likely rely on SEC Chair Paul Atkins and the broader team for their judgment and recommendations.
Trump also said crypto assets had taken some pressure off the U.S. dollar and had been “very good” for the currency.
His comments stopped short of announcing any plan or commitment by the U.S. government to acquire additional Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
