The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will convene a public roundtable on Sept. 17, 2026, to examine the feasibility of extending U.S. equity market trading to a 24-hour schedule.
Hosted at the regulator’s Washington headquarters, the event will bring together participants to discuss the operational requirements for overnight trading, the resilience of market infrastructure, and the potential benefits and risks of longer trading hours.Â
SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins said the agency aims to explore how U.S. equity markets could evolve alongside continuously operating markets while ensuring that any expansion maintains appropriate safeguards for investors and customers.
