U.S. Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan V. Gould said entities involved in digital assets and other novel technologies should have an opportunity to become national banks when their activities are legally permissible.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency received 40 de novo applications over the past 18 months, including national trust bank applications.
For many complete applications, the regulator issued a decision within 120 days.
Gould said the United States and the OCC were “once again open for business.”
