Zilliqa, a blockchain network that uses sharding technology to improve transaction scalability, said one of its exchange partners suffered a security breach, leading to the theft of ZIL tokens from a cold wallet.
Following the incident, the company said it has asked cryptocurrency exchanges to temporarily suspend ZIL deposits and withdrawals as a precautionary measure to help prevent the stolen tokens from being transferred or sold through centralized trading platforms.
Zilliqa added that it is working with relevant parties to investigate the breach and determine both its root cause and the full extent of the incident.
The company did not identify the affected exchange or disclose the amount of ZIL stolen.
