“1559 is definitely the most important part of London, The London upgrade is proof that the Ethereum ecosystem is able to make significant changes.”

After the upgrade over 3,550 Ethereum worth approximately $9.8 Million were already burned.

Vitalik claims that Ethereum energy consumption will drop by over 99 percent after giving up proof of work mechanism.

Buterin stated that the successful implementation of the London upgrade makes him more confident about the upcoming merge.

He said:

“Definitely makes me more confident about the merge.”

The release of Ethereum 2.0 is scheduled to take place in 2022. Some Eth2 researchers think the merge could be completed sooner.

The block size on Ethereum is now variable, which is another great accomplishment of the upgrade. Previously the number of transactions that could fit in a single block were used to be fixed,  users had to wait to have their transactions processed when there was high network demand. But now blocks can grow or shrink to match the amount of incoming transactions.

Vitalik said:

“Now it gets much easier to send a transaction that will get included in the next block and that’s very important to user experience,”
