Bitpay, the world leader in blockchain payment technology, officially declared that they have added support to Shiba Inu (SHIB) token. This support means now clients can buy, store, swap, and spend with this Ethereum ERC-20 token directly on the BitPay app.

The announcement comes due to an overwhelming demand for the token.

The company noted that even though Shiba Inu (SHIB) started as a meme, the strong SHIBArmy along with the response from AMC and Newegg had moved SHIB to the top of the list of coins to add. The increased popularity puts SHIB in the top #15 since tracking from zero in May by market capitalization on CoinMarketCap just in time for holiday spending.

“The Shiba Inu community is passionate about its coin and serious about giving those consumers places to spend SHIB,” Stephen Pair, CEO of BitPay, said. “BitPay believes that the more community involvement from coin holders supports awareness and adoption helping to move the blockchain industry to pave the way for blockchain payments to disrupt the way consumers and businesses receive and spend funds.”

Formerly, on November 16, Adam Aron, CEO of AMCTheatres, confirmed that Bitpay has decided to support Shiba Inu specifically because he asked, so AMC could take Shiba Inu for online payments of movie tickets and concessions.

Further, he noted that Bitpay could take 60-120 days to add support for Shiba Inu (SHIB) and  AMC would be the first Bitpay client to accept Shiba Inu.

In response to this huge announcement by Bitpay, Shytoshi Kusama, a pseudonymous developer of Shiba Inu (SHIB) responded and said:

“A wonderful way to end the week. Thanks, BitPay. How many merchants now can accept Shiba?”
