Polkadot is currently the 9th biggest cryptocurrency in the world by means of market capitalization. The current market capitalization for the coin stands at $26,359,380,207 USD, according to Coinmarketcap.
At the time of writing, Polkadot (DOT) is trading at $25.90, -7.81% from the previous session, with a 24-hour trading volume of $1,253,230,373 USD.
Polkadot project is unique from other cryptocurrencies as it is a sharded multichain network, meaning it can process many transactions on several chains in parallel. This parallel processing power improves scalability.
Custom blockchains are quick and easy to develop through the Substrate framework and can be connected to Polkadot’s network within minutes. The network is also highly flexible and adaptive, allowing the sharing of information and functionality between participants similar to apps on a smartphone. Polkadot can be automatically upgraded without the need for a fork in order to implement new features or remove bugs.
