On occasion, Buterin also commented on the importance of anonymity and privacy. According to ETH founder, Satoshi’s disappearance was the second best thing he did, the first being Bitcoin.

Other big names like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel also follow the same line of thought as Vitalik. Both believe that Satoshi is someone who is well known in the community for his previous work.

Vitalik Buterin quotes Hal Finney.

Vitalik’s guesses about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity started with a joke in which he had to choose a candidate from four options.

The first one featured Craig Wright (Faketoshi), Charles Hoskinson (Creator of Cardano), Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla), and an anonymous blueberry. Vitalik chose the unknown personality, denying that Craig Wright is the creator of Bitcoin. However, he claims to be a BTC creator and is already being sued for such insistence.

When asked more openly about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, Vitalik did not hesitate to quote Hal Finney, the first person to receive a Bitcoin transaction.

“I feel like if I had to name one person, I would say Hal Finney.”

According to Wikipedia, “Harold Thomas Finney II (May 4, 1956 – August 28, 2014) was an American developer for PGP Corporation and was the second developer hired after Phil Zimmermann. He was credited as the lead developer on several console games in his early career. He also was an early bitcoin contributor and received the first bitcoin transaction from bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto.”

In addition to Vitalik Buterin, other big names like Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, believe that the creator of Bitcoin is someone connected to past projects. Thiel also stated that he probably met Satoshi on a beach in the 2000s.

Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, in addition to stating that he is not Satoshi, said that the most likely name for this tricky Question is Nick Szabo, known for the creation of Bit gold.

Finally, Hal Finney, with Reusable Proof-of-Work, and Nick Szabo with Bit gold are strong candidates as Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite this, there are numerous other candidates, such as Wei Dai, creator of B-money.

It seems that the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity will be present forever. At least he’s proved that it’s possible to remain anonymous even while creating one of the most innovative technologies of the modern-day.
