Uber Technologies Inc will one day accept Bitcoin as the payment method in its app.
Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive officer of Uber cited the cost of exchanges incur high transaction fees, and the environmental impact of digital mining are the reasons why Uber has yet to implement the technology.
“We are having conversations all the time about crypto, I think right now bitcoin is quite valuable as a store of value, but the exchange mechanism is expensive and not environmentally friendly, but as the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive, becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see that we are leaning a bit more towards crypto.”
Khosrowshahi said that Uber will accept cryptocurrencies “at some point” in the future. “That is not the right point,” he told Bloomberg Television.
