“Like Twitter, digital currencies operate without global barriers. We are excited to include Ethereum along with bitcoin, allowing more people to participate in the digital economy,” Twitter said.

The move follows Twitter’s ongoing exploration of the Ethereum ecosystem. Last month, the company debuted a non-fungible token (NFT)  setting NFTs as a profile picture for Twitter blue users.

A Twitter spokesperson told CoinDesk that Ethereum wallet support is available to all users who agree with the company’s tipping policy.

Twitter also announced that they will not charge any fees for the ETH tipping feature, but third-party payment services may charge fees.

The function does not support ENS domains – only full Ethereum addresses. The social platform implemented Bitcoin tipping in September 2021 through the Lightning Network in cooperation with the Strike service.

Other payment partners of Twitter include Cash App, GoFundMe, Patreon, Wealthsimple, Venmo, as well as fintech providers Paga, Paytm, and Barter by Flutterwave added alongside Ethereum.
