Ukraine Government Cancels WORLD Token Airdrop.

As the Russian invasion continues, the Ukrainian government has canceled its planned airdrop of WORLD tokens, with plans on the way to support its military with non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The country said it intends to announce non-fungible tokens to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces shortly but presently has no schedules to issue NFTs.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister and minister of digital transformation, made this known today on popular microblogging platform Twitter.

After careful consideration, we decided to cancel the airdrop […] We will announce NFTs to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces soon. We DO NOT HAVE any plans to issue any fungible tokens,” Fedorov said in the tweet.

Ukraine to Reward Soldiers

Federov noted in a tweet that since the Russian invasion, there have been several volunteers who have joined the Ukrainian military, in a bid to fight back the aggression from Russian forces.

Following the massive support the Ukrainian military has received from many volunteers, the country believes it is best to reward the sacrifices of its gallant men and women on the war front.

At press time, Ukraine did not release further information about the upcoming projects, while efforts to get comments from the government have not yielded any result so far.

Ukraine Embraces Cryptocurrencies Amid War

Recall that the Ukrainian government has turned to cryptocurrencies since the beginning of the war. Federov has been on the front line of seeking funding through cryptocurrency donations from concerned individuals who wish to support Ukrainian forces to resist the Russian invasion.

Last week, Ukraine appealed to the world to send in donations in the form of Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), and other digital currencies.

Popular blockchain researcher Elliptic noted that the country has raised nearly $43 million from 67,000 donations since the campaign started.

The funds, according to Ukraine’s ministry of digital transformation, will not only be used to destroy many Russian soldiers but will also help in providing relief for victims of the war.

As part of its appreciation, Ukraine announced an airdrop program to reward donors who have been sending donations since the beginning of the war.

However, several reports noted that the airdrop of Peaceful World (WORLD) tokens is suspected to be fake, with Etherscan marking the address as a hoax.

“[…] This token is misleading to make people believe that it was sent from a well-known address, which is prone to fraud,” Wu Blockchain tweeted earlier today.
