LimeWire Integrates XRP as a Payment Method

The development allows investors to participate in the LimeWire token (LMWR) public sale with their XRP tokens.

LimeWire, a blockchain-based platform for content sharing, has integrated XRP as a payment method for the ongoing Initial Coin Offering (ICO) event of its proprietary LimeWire token (LMWR). The LMWR public sale is coming up after the community sale sold out in March.

The recent development allows XRP investors to participate in the public sale event using their XRP tokens. This means users can seamlessly make XRP deposits to purchase the LMWR token before it officially starts trading on recognized exchanges. LimeWire disclosed that XRP will list on 4+ major exchanges on May 16.

LimeWire integrated XRP following a consensus reached by the XRP community. Notably, the content-sharing platform called on the XRP community to express their preference for XRP as a payment method by generating a minimum of 300 retweets for a particular tweet.

LimeWire had to integrate XRP after the tweet surpassed the set threshold in less than 2 hours. So far, it has garnered over 1,800 retweets as of press time. A screenshot released by the LimeWire team confirms the successful inclusion of XRP, which now joins a list of other payment options, including BTC, ETH, USDT, and BNB, among several others.

The original LimeWire functioned as a peer-to-peer platform from 2000 to 2010, when it had to shut down due to legal issues. Austrian investors Paul and Julian Zehetmayr acquired the brand in 2021 and revamped it into a blockchain-based Web3 platform for creators and fans. Last month, LimeWire raised $10.4 million in funding from SwissBorg ventures, Crypto.com Capital and Kraken Ventures.

The LimeWire Public Sale Event

The LimeWire public sale event, accessed on token.lmwr.com, began on May 2 and is expected to end in the next three days. The minimum amount the team looks to raise from the sale stands at $15 million, with the maximum amount set at $30 million. As of press time, over $16.1 million has been raised.

Interested parties can purchase LMWR with fiat and USDC on Republic, a unique private investment platform. Alternatively, investors can procure the token with crypto assets on LimeWire’s official launchpad, which now includes XRP as a payment method. The minimum purchase is set at 418 XRP.  However, the launchpad is not accessible to US residents.

In other updates, Xumm, an XRPL-based self-custody wallet, has recently been promoting XRP as a payment method. The wallet partnered with Ecwid last month to bring XRP payments to over 1 million stores globally. On 3rd May, Xumm also enabled users to buy & sell XRP with 40+ fiat currencies.
