Judge Torres has approved the parties’ joint request for a one-week extension to unseal Hinman’s docs.
In a recent tweet, defense lawyer and former federal prosecutor attorney James K. Filan said Judge Analisa Torres granted the joint request for a time extension filed by the SEC and Ripple.

Yesterday, the parties requested a one-week extension to file public, redacted versions of the summary judgment materials and accompanying exhibits, including the drafts of William Hinman’s 2018 speech.
The deadline was initially set for June 6, 2023. Following the court’s latest decision, the deadline to publicly release Hinman’s docs and other redacted summary judgment materials has now been extended to June 13, 2023.
Controversies Surrounding Hinman’s Docs
It is worth noting that Hinman’s docs are an integral aspect of the ongoing lawsuit between the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple. The documents relate to a controversial speech by former SEC’s Corporation Finance Director William Hinman, where he declared Bitcoin and Ethereum as non-securities.
Hinman’s docs involve SEC’s internal deliberations and emails regarding the controversial speech. The SEC made significant efforts to keep the documents away from Ripple. However, after 18 months of legal battle and six court rulings, it finally surrendered the documents to Ripple.
Despite turning over Hinman’s docs to Ripple, the SEC still filed a motion to seal the contents of the docs. Interestingly, Judge Analisa Torres denied the motion earlier this week, ordering the unsealing of Hinman’s docs.
Meanwhile, attorney Jeremy Hogan revealed in a May 17 tweet that the SEC has roughly 10 days to appeal Judge Torres’ decision on Hinman’s docs.
