Cardano Founder Hails ADA Community as Cardano CIP-1964 Workshops Progress

Workshops on the latest Cardano proposal aimed at improving the blockchain’s on-chain governance system to align with the upcoming Voltaire upgrade are underway.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson took to Twitter today to share critical updates about the ongoing Edinburgh CIP-1694 workshop. This conference opens up final discussions regarding the latest Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP-1694) titled “The First Step Towards On-Chain Decentralized Governance” on Cardano.

Revealing that the Day 1 of the CIP-1694 workshop in Edinburgh was a great success, Hoskinson confirmed that Edinburgh’s event is designed to summarize all other workshops held this year in different locations regarding the CIP-1694 design.

“The first day of the CIP-1694 workshop in Edinburgh was a great success. We have a large, diverse group here from South America to Asia, and we are unpacking the 50+ workshops attended by more than 1,000 people,” Hoskinson tweeted on Wednesday.

Going further, the Cardano founder added that delicate subject matters regarding the design of CIP-1694, such as real-life identity with the delegated representatives (Dreps) and incentives for participating in governance, would be discussed in the subsequent days of the Edinburgh workshop.

He also appreciated the Cardano community’s active participation in the CIP-1694 discussions and overall integration into the planned upgrade process. Accordingly, Hoskinson touted the Cardano community as the best in the crypto space.

ADA Community Expresses Excitement

Rick McCracken, a top community member, and Cardano Stake Pool Operator, corroborated Hoskinson’s update, providing additional details on the topics to be discussed.

He said issues related to the required stake weight voting threshold for a proposal to be considered upon Voltaire upgrade would be discussed in the Edinburgh workshop. McCracken added that the workshop’s major deliberations would include getting to minimal viable governance on Cardano.

Cardano ambassador Lucas Macchiavelli, excited about the summit, shared a picture captioned “amazing first day.” The photo featured Hoskinson and other attendees of the Edinburgh workshop.

The Cardano CIP-1694

To improve the Cardano ecosystem and make the blockchain’s governance more decentralized, project developers led by Hoskinson are gearing up to onboard the final IOG’ upgrade dubbed Voltaire. This upgrade was pre-designed to come after the Vasil upgrade executed in September 2022.

In preparation for the Voltaire era, the Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP-1694) was rolled out courtesy of top community members, including Hoskinson. Notably, the proposal aims at revising Cardano’s on-chain governance system to support the new requirements for Voltaire.

Per the proposal, the underlying objective is to make the governance of the top smart contract platform open to all community members so that any Cardano user can submit a governance action in the community and vote on future improvements. Above all, the enactment of CIP-1694 would further address centralization concerns recently reacted to by Hoskinson.
