Investor Loses XRP, Falling Victim to Fake AI Trading Portal

Date:

Recently, an XRP investor fell victim to a fraudulent website masquerading as a genuine AI trading platform, losing substantial amounts of his XRP portfolio.

Zain Kelly, the aggrieved party, utilized the X platform to draw the attention of ProHoster, the hosting service, to the fraudulent trading portal’s activities. Kelly lamented to ProHoster that the site it offered hosting service was a fake AI trading website. He added that the portal impersonated genuine crypto YouTube content creators to mask its counterfeit offering.

Notably, the XRP investor’s aim for bringing the development to the crypto community is to get ProHoster to divulge helpful information regarding the identity of the person(s) behind the scam AI trading site.

From his tweet, it seems the hosting service provider had not yielded to earlier inquiries the victim submitted privately. Kelly remarked in the complaint tweet:

“I’m contacting you [ProHoster] again because I previously sent an email seeking your assistance with some information.”

The post on the X platform has garnered significant traction with over 21.5k engagements. However, ProHoster has not responded to the complaint at the time of reporting. Nonetheless, it seems that the hosting service lacks an active presence within the X community, evident from their most recent post dating back three months.

Meanwhile, some notable members of the XRP community weighed in on the conversation to assist Zain Kelly. The well-known XRP influencer, Darren, conducted a “WhoIs” search on the deceptive AI trading platform.

However, his search yielded no legitimate information, as the individuals responsible for the fraud had deliberately concealed details about the website. Specifically, most of the details returned from the WhoIs search were “redacted for privacy.”

On the other hand, some other commenters suggested the hosting provider could be compelled to divulge the privately held information with a court.

This scam development has necessitated the oft-repeated cautionary messages of “Don’t send you XRP or any crypto to random unknown unauthorized.”

It is worth highlighting that the XRP community has been consistently targeted by scammers, with these attempts intensifying following the Ripple team’s success in the regulatory battle for XRP. Prominent figures within the community, such as Ripple’s CTO, have warned about the prevalence of counterfeit XRP giveaways on the X platform.
