Shiba Inu Lead, Shytoshi Kusama Picks Layer 2 and Memecoins in a Survey, Here’s Why

Date:

Shytoshi Kusama, the Shiba Inu lead developer, has made a pivotal suggestion to the prominent centralized exchange KuCoin.

Recently, KuCoin took to X to gauge the view of crypto market participants regarding their preferences. Specifically, the exchange asked the crypto community which tokens they preferred between layer two crypto projects and meme-themed cryptocurrencies.

“Layer 2 coins or meme coins,” KuCoin posed to the community, with an emoji depicting curiosity.

KuCoin’s tweet elicited various suggestions from members of various crypto communities. Notably, the subtle ambiguity in the post allows for multiple interpretations, including whether the exchange is seeking input on listing more layer two coins versus meme coins.

Moreover, another possible interpretation is that KuCoin could be seeking input from crypto market participants on their preference for investing. These possible understandings were reflected in the comments to KuCoin’s tweet.

Shiba Inu Lead Reacts

One of the leading crypto figures who responded to the post was Shytoshi Kusama, the pseudonymous leader of the Shiba Inu ecosystem.

Kusama replied, “BOTH,” suggesting a preference for layer twos and meme-themed coins without favoring one over the other.

It is worth mentioning that Shiba Inu’s blockchain, Shibarium, operates as a layer two network and utilizes the gas token Bone (BONE). Besides, the Shiba Inu token itself is meme-inspired, although it has since transitioned to a project with diverse utilities.

This context may explain why Kusama picked both layer two and meme coins in the KuCoin survey.

Moreover, the KuCoin exchange has yet to list Shibarium’s BONE token. In other words, it is conceivable that Shytoshi Kusama suggests that the trading platform lists BONE, a layer two token.

Similarly, many commenters of KuCoin’s post explicitly asked the exchange to consider listing BONE. A Shiba Inu enthusiast remarked

“Hey KuCoin. Consider adding Bone to your platform! It’s a win-win for KuCoin and the Shiba Army. Let’s make this Christmas special for Shiba enthusiasts.”

Another said: “You [claim to be] people exchange, but I can’t find BONE on the people’s exchange.”
