Shibarium, the official layer-2 blockchain of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, suffered a temporary network outage that impacted its performance over the weekend.

Kaal Dhairya, a prominent developer within the Shiba Inu ecosystem, provided an update about the development today.

Shibarium Validators Experience Networking Issues

According to Dhairya, the outage stemmed from networking issues among Shibarium validators. For context, validators are entities responsible for confirming transactions on Shibarium and maintaining the network’s integrity.

The issue, which lasted several hours, has been resolved. However, some Shibarium-related services, including Shibariumscan, the network’s official block explorer, and external RPCs (Remote Procedure Calls), are still experiencing downtime.

The Shibarium developer disclosed that these services would continue to experience downtime until some crucial steps are implemented. In the meantime, Dhairya has asked all external developers working on the infrastructure aspects of Shibarium to contact him to coordinate communication through shared Telegram/Slack channels.

Shibarium Latest Feat

The development comes days after the L2 network saw a massive surge in daily account growth. As reported earlier, Shibarium witnessed a spike in account creation on April 13, with 13,314 new accounts joining the network in a day.

Following the influx, Shibarium’s total accounts surpassed the 100K threshold, with the figure currently standing at 102,303. Notably, the daily increase represents the highest daily account growth the network has witnessed since its debut in August 2023.

Prior Network Outage

This is not the first network outage Shibarium has suffered since its inception. Shortly after its launch in August 2023, Shibarium encountered a major technical issue that caused its mainnet RPC to go offline.

As a result, Shibarium entered into private mode as developers worked round the clock to resolve the issue. After two weeks of intensive scaling, Shibarium relaunched on the mainnet and has remained operational ever since.

Daily Transactions Dip Amid Network Outage

Meanwhile, data from Shibariumscan shows that the L2 blockchain has processed 417,354,954 (417.35 million) transactions since its debut. Additionally, Shibarium also boasts 1.78 million addresses, with over 4.32 million blocks minted so far.

However, Shibarium’s daily transaction count has plunged heavily over the past few days. The figure, which soared to nearly one million on April 15, currently stands at 10,040.

It is unclear whether the slump in Shibarium’s daily transaction count was caused by the network outage or the massive turbulence across the broader market.
