Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Says Midnight City Will Enable AI Agent Trading in Months

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson says Midnight City plans to launch AI-powered crypto trading within the next few months.

The feature will let users fund their wallets and configure AI agents to automatically trade cryptocurrencies across multiple blockchains, following their chosen goals and strategies.

Hoskinson emphasized that users will retain control over their agents, choosing which strategies they use and how they operate.

He also outlined plans for a marketplace where AI agents share and discover trading strategies, learn from one another, and improve their performance.

Midnight Plans Identity and Wallet Tools for AI Agents

Charles Hoskinson says Midnight is building the infrastructure for AI agents to trade cryptocurrencies automatically, starting with digital identity.

The project is developing Midnight Passport, an identity system scheduled to launch its first version toward the end of 2026. The project plans to release additional features about every three weeks during the first half of 2027.

Each AI agent will have an identity linked to its user, connecting the agent’s activities to the person controlling it.

Midnight has also integrated the Open Wallet Standard to support its AI trading plans.

Together, these tools will enable users to authorize AI agents to access trading strategies and execute transactions across different blockchains and off-chain systems.

Hoskinson has not announced an exact launch date or detailed the security measures, trading limits, or level of human approval required for individual transactions.

AI Agents Will Share and Improve Trading Strategies

Charles Hoskinson says Midnight plans to establish marketplaces where developers share trading strategies with AI agents.

Instead of instructing an agent exactly when to buy or sell, users will be able to assign it a broader goal, such as generating a profit. The agent will then identify relevant strategies or collaborate with other agents to pursue that objective.

Hoskinson believes this approach will help AI agents improve by learning from strategies developed by others.

Developers will also be able to share their strategies while retaining ownership of their technology. Hoskinson compared this model to the automotive industry, where companies collaborate on technology while protecting their proprietary designs.

Midnight aims to enable this cooperation while giving developers control over how they distribute and use their strategies.

Hoskinson Links Midnight to Cardano Financial Inclusion Goals

Hoskinson also discussed how Midnight’s privacy-focused technology supports Cardano’s goal of expanding access to financial services.

He highlighted RealFi, a decentralized finance initiative designed to provide services such as small loans to people underserved by traditional banks.

These services will give users access to digital wallets and identities, connecting them to blockchain-based financial tools.

Hoskinson also highlighted unreliable internet connections and electricity supplies as barriers to financial access in some regions. He sees privacy-focused technology as a way to support secure transactions and identity verification in these environments.

Midnight’s planned applications extend beyond crypto trading to include digital identity, financial services, and private transactions.

AI-Powered Crypto Trading: What’s Next?

Midnight’s AI-powered trading system remains in development. Its rollout will depend on the project’s implementation, security safeguards, available trading strategies, and controls governing how AI agents manage user transactions.

Hoskinson’s vision positions Midnight as an infrastructure platform for autonomous crypto trading, strategy sharing, digital identity, and privacy-focused financial services.
