Crypto pundit Nebraskan Gooner has questioned Cardano’s chances of revisiting its previous ATH.
Gooner shared his concerns amid growing calls for an altcoin season, a period when alternative cryptocurrencies outperform Bitcoin. Notably, he noted that most major altcoins, including Cardano, remain between 50% and 90% below their respective ATHs.
His commentary challenges expectations of an imminent altcoin season and encourages investors to consider how much ground these assets must recover before reaching new price records.
Cardano Needs a 16x Rally to Reclaim Its ATH
Cardano faces a particularly steep recovery challenge. ADA reached its all-time high of $3.10 in September 2021 during the 2020–2021 bull market.
However, the token has since suffered a prolonged decline. Currently, ADA trades at $0.1902, 93.86% below its peak. Moreover, the asset has declined 64.79% over the past year and 29.48% over the past month.
At its current price, ADA would need to rally 1,529% to return to $3.10, representing a roughly 16.3-fold increase.

Gooner Says ADA Will Never Revisit ATH
Gooner has previously expressed skepticism about ADA’s ability to revisit its ATH. Similarly, other market observers have raised concerns about Cardano’s ecosystem, governance and ability to sustain long-term demand for its native token.
These concerns include the departure of prominent community figures, such as Chris O, who announced his exit as a delegated representative (DRep).
Meanwhile, developments involving EMURGO and its exit from Pentad following the SecondFi hack have attracted attention. Governance controversies, including the cancellation of Cardano Summit 2026, have also added to concerns surrounding the ecosystem.
Ecosystem Developments Could Support a Recovery
Despite the bearish outlook, some analysts believe Cardano could eventually recover if its ecosystem developments translate into stronger adoption and sustained demand for ADA.
Catalysts include the upcoming mainnet launch of Leios scalability upgrade, the Pogun Bitcoin DeFi initiative, and developments involving RealFi and Midnight. These initiatives could strengthen Cardano’s capabilities and expand its use cases. However, their eventual impact on ADA’s price remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, some market commentators maintain considerably more bullish expectations. Analyst Captain, for instance, has projected that ADA could reach $4 by the end of 2026. Such a move would push the token above its previous ATH of $3.10.
Nevertheless, this projection remains speculative. Cardano would need to attract sufficient buying pressure and sustain a substantial recovery to achieve that target.
Altcoin Season Has Yet to Be Confirmed
Broader market conditions also provide context for Gooner’s warning. The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index currently stands at 50%, indicating neutral conditions rather than a confirmed altcoin season.
According to the index’s criteria, an altcoin season occurs when at least 75% of the top 100 cryptocurrencies outperform Bitcoin over the past three months. Currently, only 50 of those assets meet that threshold.
Consequently, investors cannot yet assume that a broad-based altcoin rally is imminent. Even if market conditions improve and an altcoin season emerges, Cardano would still need to overcome its substantial distance from its previous ATH.
