Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced plans to invest more than €16 billion (approximately $18 billion) in Germany in 2027, including €4.8 billion to expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure around Frankfurt.

Amazon stock was little changed in early morning trading Tuesday after closing 5% higher at $262.45 on Monday.

The investment, announced at the German government’s Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin, covers cloud computing, satellite internet, artificial intelligence, logistics, and Prime Video productions.

Amazon Expands Cloud, Robotics and Logistics Operations in Germany

The Frankfurt investment will increase capacity in the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region to serve demand for cloud computing and AI services. Amazon has operated cloud infrastructure in Frankfurt since 2014 and separately launched its AWS European Sovereign Cloud in Brandenburg in January 2026.

Amazon is also opening a second robotics and AI research laboratory in Berlin, doubling its research presence in the city. The facility will create specialized roles in robotics hardware, software and applied research.

In logistics, Amazon plans to complete modernization projects at fulfillment centers in Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund and Werne in 2027, while upgrades at three additional locations will continue through 2028.

Amazon expects its previously announced logistics projects, including fulfillment centers in Zweibrücken and Könnern, to create more than 3,000 jobs.

The investment program also covers Amazon Leo, the company’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network designed to provide broadband connectivity in areas underserved by existing networks.

In media, Prime Video has outlined more than 15 new German productions through the end of 2027, extending Amazon’s investment in locally produced entertainment.
