Almost every tenth citizen of the United States is ready to give cryptocurrencies as a gift for the New Year, and every fourth is ready to buy them in 2022.
The survey was conducted by BlockFi.
We're back with our survey series BlockFi: Real Talk.
This time we surveyed ~1,300 Americans about their interest in giving, receiving, and discussing crypto during the holidays—or as we like to call it, HODLdays.

The survey involved 1300 US residents aged 18 to 65. Among respondents aged 9-25 (generation Z), the percentage of digital assets popularity was twice as high as other age groups. The respondents gave preference to Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and Ethereum. Only 2% expressed interest in giving NFTs as Christmas gifts, 15% plan to purchase BTC, ETH, and Doge in 2022.
Summary of results is:
- 1 in 10 Americans wants crypto for 2021 Chrismast Holidays.
- 1 in 04 Americans actually knows how to give crypto as a present.
- Generation Z is more likely than other generations to have given crypto as a gift already.
- Bitcoin is the #1 crypto choice for holiday gifting.
- Men are 3x more likely than women to want crypto over gift cards as a present.
- 1 in 3 Americans is more interested in talking about crypto, instead of politics or their love lives at the holiday dinner table.
- 1 in 4 Americans says they are likely to buy crypto in 2022.
- 15% of Americans plan to buy NFTs in 2022
Recall, according to a report by Grayscale Investments, 26% of US investors have already invested in bitcoin, while more than half have become BTC owners over the past year. According to a Pew Research Center survey, since 2015, the number of American adults familiar with the first cryptocurrency has increased from 48% to 86%.
