Ripple Files Trademark for Crypto Custody as US Treasury Meets Industry Giants to Discuss Bitcoin Reserve Custody

Renowned crypto payment giant Ripple has filed for the “Ripple Custody” trademark with the USPTO, as listed in the Justia U.S. legal database.

Ripple submitted the application on February 25. XRP community figure, Crypto Eri, recently discovered the update, highlighting it in a post on X.

Details of Ripple Custody Trademark

Under this trademark, Ripple aims to offer downloadable software for the custody of crypto assets, virtual currency, and fiat currency. It also seeks to provide downloadable software for transmitting, storing, and managing these assets.

The filing also covers peer-to-peer network services for the electronic transmission of financial data related to custody and storage, as well as providing temporary, non-downloadable software for the custody, transmission, and storage of these currencies.

Moreover, this includes Software as a Service (SaaS) for managing and transferring cryptocurrency, fiat currency, and digital currency.

Notably, this move comes several months after Ripple acquired the custody firm Metaco. Ripple is now progressing in its efforts to offer infrastructure services for institutions.

XRP Army Reacts

This latest development by Ripple has sparked massive optimism among XRP community members.

X user Noah Christopher believes Ripple is making significant strides in expanding into crypto custody, storage, and payments. Christopher speculated that, with increasing regulations, a secure and compliant platform could be a game-changer. “Are they positioning for mainstream adoption?” he pondered.

Other community members have pointed out that including fiat currency makes it even more intriguing.

Meanwhile, X user BobbyB checked for further clues through Ripple’s Custody app, available on both Google Play and the Apple Store. He discovered that the app is an authenticator for signing transactions related to Ripple’s institutional crypto custody solution, not a wallet solution for end users.

Crucial Timing of Ripple Trademark Filing

Meanwhile, the timing of Ripple’s custody trademark filing is particularly notable. It comes at a time when the U.S. Treasury is discussing with leading crypto custody firms to determine how to manage the national Bitcoin reserve.

Treasury officials have reached out to Anchorage Digital and two other firms to explore ways to secure U.S. Bitcoin holdings and gather insights on best practices for managing large digital asset stockpiles.

At present, the Treasury favors third-party custody for immediate security. However, it plans to eventually transition to self-custody using cold storage and private keys.

Shiba Inu Set to Make Token Launches on Shibarium Easier with New Upgrade

0

Popular Shiba Inu community handle hints at an upcoming Shibarium upgrade that could revolutionize token launches.

In a recent X post, Shibarium Updates (@Shibizens) suggests that the Shiba Inu ecosystem team is planning to roll out a major upgrade that could take token launches to the next level.

The post emphasized that the upcoming upgrade would cater to users seeking to explore, invest, and launch ‘the next big’ token on Shibarium.

Features of New Upgrades

According to the announcement, this upgrade will introduce two major features specifically around pumping and launching tokens.

Notably, the Pump Token feature serves as a voting and discovery system on Shibarium. This system will allow users to explore and identify newly created tokens on the Layer-2 blockchain and vote on them to boost their ratings.

The initiative will enable users to identify promising ecosystem tokens early before they gain widespread popularity in the market.

Secondly, the upcoming Shibarium upgrade will offer a simplified token creation tool. This tool will allow users to create and deploy new tokens on Shibarium in just a few clicks, similar to how Solana-based Pump.Fun works.

This feature mitigates the technical barriers and makes it easier for anyone to introduce new tokens into the Shiba Inu ecosystem. However, this could pose a challenge for users as malefactors might leverage the tool to launch malicious tokens.

Meanwhile, the community handle emphasized that the upcoming upgrades are not live yet but will be launched soon.

Team Rolls Out Similar Initiative for dApp Creation

The upcoming initiative is part of efforts to drive Shibarium adoption by simplifying the process of launching and exploring new tokens on the blockchain.

Recall that the ecosystem team introduced a similar initiative for developers seeking to build decentralized applications on Shibarium.

The team launched Shiba Inu Developer Portal (ShibDev), a platform that provides developers with essential tools to build on Shibarium. These tools include faucets, API management, node access, and on-chain data.

Following the successful debut of ShibDev, the team now seeks to introduce new tools to simplify the process of exploring and launching tokens on Shibarium.

Deaton Reacts as Arch Public co-founder Says Ripple v SEC Case Ending Soon: Here are 3 Expected Outcomes

0

Legal experts react as Andrew Parish, the co-founder of Arch Public, suggests that the SEC lawsuit against Ripple could be nearing its conclusion.

Andrew made the bold claim today, emphasizing that he learned about the development from two sources familiar with the matter.

Expected Outcomes

The popular crypto figure highlighted three expected outcomes from the imminent resolution of the Ripple case.

XRP Considered a Commodity

According to him, the resolution would seriously consider XRP as a commodity, potentially influencing how it will be regulated going forward. This would mark a major shift from the commission’s initial claim about XRP.

Recall that the SEC initially labeled XRP as a security in December 2020, when it filed the lawsuit against Ripple. The regulator alleged that Ripple sold XRP as a security to U.S. investors without registering the transactions as security offerings.

However, a federal court pushed back on the SEC’s classification of XRP, declaring that the coin is not a security in itself. Interestingly, the SEC did not challenge the court’s finding on XRP’s non-security status in its appeal against the verdict.

Reduced Fine

Second, Andrew suggested that the SEC would accept a significantly reduced fine compared to the amount the judge imposed against Ripple. In August 2024, Judge Analisa Torres ruled that Ripple had breached federal securities laws by conducting illegal institutional sales of XRP, imposing a fine of $125 million and a permanent injunction.

Andrew’s comments suggest that Ripple would now pay a significantly lower fine for this violation instead of the $125 million Judge Torres ordered.

Legal Precedent for Crypto Cases

Finally, Andrew suggested that the SEC’s new leadership’s handling of the Ripple case could set a major precedent for crypto-related cases through the upcoming resolution. As a result, the securities regulator might want to handle the lawsuit’s resolution with caution.

Attorneys Deaton and Rispoli React

It bears mentioning that Andrew is not fond of XRP and has rarely made positive comments about the coin in recent times. He has often called on his followers to sell XRP for Bitcoin. The Bitcoin maxi also advocated against the coin’s inclusion in the U.S. crypto reserve.

Given his stance against XRP, the recent suggestion that the Ripple case is approaching an imminent resolution triggered reactions among XRP proponents, with top legal experts John Deaton and Fred Rispoli responding to the disclosure.

Attorney Deaton quoted the tweet with the eye emoji, seeking to draw the broader XRP community’s attention to its importance.

Similarly, Attorney Fred Rispoli highlighted that he tends to believe Andrew’s reports on XRP when they are positive. This is likely due to the fact that the Bitcoin maxi would only be forced to mention something positive around the altcoin if he believes it is true.

Rispoli suggested that this selective trust is not hypocritical but a manifestation of unbridled hope.

Ripple Case Ending Soon?

Meanwhile, multiple reports suggest that the Ripple lawsuit is nearing its conclusion. Eleanor Terrett, the host of Crypto America, shared a similar sentiment last week. The pro-crypto journalist highlighted the August verdict as the major factor delaying the lawsuit’s resolution.

According to her, Ripple is negotiating with the SEC to dismiss the permanent injunction completely. The company contends it is unfair to be punished based on the ruling, especially given the SEC’s recent decision to dismiss several crypto-related lawsuits.

Besides speculations, none of the parties have issued official statements regarding ongoing settlement discussions.

Shiba Inu Exchange Reserve Hits All-Time Low of 93T SHIB: Here’s How This Could Help Price Recovery

0

Shiba Inu exchange reserve has again hit a new all-time low, as market participants continue to pull their tokens from exchanges.

This bullish development comes despite the persistent market turbulence, with SHIB witnessing some of the most brutal losses among major altcoins. For context, Shiba Inu has witnessed consecutive declines over the past three months, down nearly 63% since December 2024.

However, it appears market participants remain confident in Shiba Inu’s potential recovery, as observed by its exchange reserve metric. This indicator tracks the amount of Shiba Inu held by wallets belonging to major exchanges such as Binance, Robinhood, Crypto.com, Coinbase, and others.

Shiba Inu Exchange Reserve Falls to ATL

According to CryptoQuant, the Shiba Inu exchange reserve reached a new all-time low of 93.573 trillion tokens on March 16, representing just 15.88% of the asset’s circulating supply.

It bears mentioning that this indicator often bypasses some exchange wallets that are not properly identified, suggesting the actual exchange reserve could be higher. However, the recent downward trend in this metric reflects market realities despite a potential discrepancy in actual figures.

For context, the downward trend observed with this indicator has persisted throughout this year, according to CryptoQuant data. Amid the downtrend, the metric picked up a massive 33 trillion SHIB decline in early January but this was due to a large routine in-house movement from exchange Crypto.com.

However, the broader crash has genuinely been a result of exchange withdrawals. Last November, market analyst Ali Martinez confirmed that investors withdrew 1.67 trillion SHIB from exchanges within 24 hours.

Notably, market participants typically pull out their tokens from exchanges when they plan to HODL them for a longer time. According to IntoTheBlock data, long-term Shiba Inu holders (holding for at least a year) have surged to a peak of 1.09 million addresses, the highest for any tier.

How This Could Help SHIB Price Recovery

This growing trend could be extremely bullish for the asset, especially during recovery. When investors withdraw tokens despite a downturn, it reduces sell pressure, signals confidence, and limits exchange supply. This can tighten liquidity and potentially shift market sentiment, helping the token recover faster.

Interestingly, Shiba Inu is already on a mild recovery path, having secured three consecutive daily gains since Friday, March 14, when it hit the $0.00001201 support. SHIB has rebounded 10% since then, as it currently changes hands at $0.00001322.

The meme coin currently eyes the Pivot level at $0.00001493, which, if breached, could flip momentum from bearish to bullish in the short term. However, Shiba Inu must first break above the stubborn resistance around the $0.00001380 mark. If the exchange withdrawals help mitigate selling pressure, a breakout could materialize.

Selling XRP at This Level Will be the Greatest Financial Mistake in History: Expert

0

Edoardo Farina, founder of Alpha Lions Academy, says those selling XRP around the January 2025 highs are making the greatest financial mistake in history.

Notably, XRP has been one of the standout players in the market since the U.S. presidential election in November 2024. For context, the altcoin began its impressive run with a massive 283% increase in November 2024 alone, attracting the attention of the broader market.

Industry Commentators Flip Bullish on XRP

Amid this upsurge, several industry commentators who initially doubted its potential to recover due to the lackluster performance in 2021 quickly changed their opinions. For instance, Raoul Pal, who had previously advised investors to get out of XRP, eventually admitted he was wrong in a disclosure last December.

Months later, particularly in February 2025, billionaire Mike Novogratz made a similar U-turn, acknowledging that he was wrong about the asset. According to Novogratz, XRP had remained relevant due to its vibrant and dedicated community.

As influential figures publicly changed their stance, some XRP community figures suggest a similar trend prevailed behind the scenes for investors. Accordingly, traders or investors who chose to avoid XRP had looked to jump on the train amid the recent upsurge.

However, some of these investors appear to have left the market when XRP reclaimed the $3 price in January 2025 and when it retested highs around the 2021 all-time high. In his recent commentary, Farina suggested that this was a costly mistake.

“Great Financial Mistake”

According to him, these “XRP haters” FOMOed into the market when XRP looked bullish, especially on the back of the November 2024 upsurge. However, they chose to sell their bags at the slightest chance of bearishness, especially after XRP faced resistance at the $3 mark.

“This will go down as one of the greatest financial mistakes in history,” the Alpha Lions Academy founder boldly asserted. Notably, Farina’s conviction comes from the belief that XRP is still undervalued at current prices, anticipating a massive appreciation in the future.

For instance, last week, the market commentator implied that XRP reaching $20 would merely mark the start of its larger uptrend. At the time, he questioned investors if they would have sold BTC at $500 had they realized the asset would someday reach $100,000.

In his latest disclosure, Farina noted that those who sold around the $3 level would witness a massive supply shock when they attempt to re-enter the market, especially when XRP recovers above the 2021 all-time high. Earlier this month, The Crypto Basic confirmed that XRP supply on exchanges had continued to plummet.

Meanwhile, XRP currently changes hands at $2.4, already looking to recover the losses of February 2025. Notably, XRP has witnessed consecutive intraday gains over the past four days, already up 12% in March. A break above the $2.6 could flip the general momentum from bearish to bullish.

Bank of Korea Dismisses Bitcoin as Foreign Exchange Reserve Asset

0

The Bank of Korea has clarified its stance on Bitcoin, stating it has not considered including the asset in foreign exchange reserves.

Per a local report, this response came after an inquiry from a member of the National Assembly Planning and Finance Committee, Cha Gyu-geun.

The central bank emphasized the need for a cautious approach. He cited Bitcoin’s volatility and its failure to meet the International Monetary Fund (IMF) criteria for foreign exchange reserves.

High Volatility and Liquidity Concerns

The central bank highlighted Bitcoin’s price instability as a primary concern. At the start of the year, Bitcoin’s price reached 160 million won but recently declined to 110 million won. This significant fluctuation in Bitcoin’s value has led to uncertainty about its reliability as a reserve currency.

Some market participants anticipate that Bitcoin could surpass 1 billion won, while others warn of a potential collapse to zero. Given these projections, the Bank of Korea warned that instability in the virtual asset market could increase transaction costs when converting Bitcoin into cash. This raises liquidity concerns, as foreign exchange reserves must be readily accessible when required.

Bitcoin Fails to Meet IMF Reserve Standards

The Bank of Korea also noted that Bitcoin does not meet the IMF’s criteria for foreign exchange reserves. According to the IMF, reserves must be liquid, denominated in a convertible currency, and have an investment-grade credit rating. Bitcoin lacks these attributes, making it unsuitable for inclusion in Korea’s foreign exchange reserves.

Despite some countries, such as the Czech Republic and Brazil, expressing positive views on Bitcoin as a reserve asset, major financial institutions, including the European Central Bank, the Swiss National Bank, and the Japanese government, have opposed its adoption. The Bank of Korea reaffirmed that there has been no internal discussion or review regarding Bitcoin’s inclusion.

International Perspectives on Bitcoin Reserves

The debate over Bitcoin’s role in national reserves has gained momentum globally. On March 6, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating a national reserve of Bitcoin.

Notably, the reserve will comprise Bitcoin acquired through civil and criminal forfeiture processes. The government also disclosed plans for additional purchases in budget-neutral ways.

Trump’s Bitcoin Support Risks Sparking US-Led Financial Crisis, Says Bank of France Governor

0

The U.S. pro-crypto pivot under President Donald Trump may come at a hefty price, one European Central Bank Governing Council member has warned.

From key appointments to executive orders, President Trump has paved the way to eliminate regulatory hurdles for the crypto industry. However, this embrace of crypto may come with significant risks, according to an ECB Governing Council member.

A Financial Crisis in the Making?

According to Francois Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of the Bank of France and ECB Governing Council member, the U.S.’s pro-crypto pivot under Trump risks triggering the next financial crisis.

“The United States risks sinning through negligence,” Villeroy told La Tribune Dimanche in an interview published on Saturday, March 15.

Villeroy argued that financial crises often originate in the US and spread to the rest of the world. He believes the Trump administration is sowing the seeds of future upheaval by encouraging crypto-assets and non-bank finance.

Villeroy’s statements largely align with the ECB’s seemingly unwavering crypto skepticism under President Christine Lagarde.

ECB Perception of Bitcoin and Crypto Under Lagarde Leadership

The ECB president has continuously argued that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are worthless. Lagarde has also maintained that crypto and decentralized finance pose risks to financial stability. She has said no European central bank would adopt Bitcoin as a reserve asset.

Meanwhile, the ECB is far from the only multinational financial organization to hold this stance. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also warned of economic risks from unbridled crypto adoption. In a recent development, the IMF required El Salvador to stop Bitcoin accumulation to secure $1.4 billion in funding.

For many of these organizations, the series of interconnected crypto firm collapses in the 2022 bear market only helped to prove their point.

Nonetheless, crypto proponents continue to argue that fears of financial stability risks stemming from crypto are unfounded and born out of fear of embracing the future, like the Internet and the telephone before it.

XRP Broke into Price Discovery Against Korean Won Indicating Larger Uptrend May Follow

0

XRP recently broke into price discovery against the Korean Won, indicating it entered a phase where larger uptrends could continue.

XRP’s price is currently battling the bears amid persistent turbulence impacting the broader crypto market. Despite this, the altcoin appears to have displayed the greatest resilience, as recently highlighted by Bollinger Bands founder John Bollinger.

For context, XRP is still up 8.73% this month amid the market downturn, with a more substantial 12.16% increase this year. In contrast, other altcoins are seeing declines. For one, Ethereum (ETH) has collapsed 15.21% this month and is down 43% year-to-date.

The recent market slump follows a previous upward trend that saw multiple assets reach previous highs from November 2024 to January 2025. XRP was one of the biggest beneficiaries of this uptrend, and a recent discovery shows the extent of its explosion was largely underreported.

XRP Reaches Price Discovery Against KRW

A look at the XRPKRW chart shows a remarkable event in January 2025. Notably, within this month, XRP rose to 4,987 KRW, marking a new all-time high.

For context, XRP’s previous all-time high against the Won was 4,750 KRW, attained in January 2018. The run to 4,987 KRW two months back indicates that XRP slightly reached a price discovery phase on the XRPKRW chart. Data shows that this occurred on the back of a massive symmetrical triangle breakout on the monthly chart.

XRP Against Korean Won
XRP Against Korean Won

The upper trendline of this triangle started forming as XRP dropped from the previous 4,750 KRW ATH in January 2018, persisting for nearly seven years. Meanwhile, the formation of the lower trendline began in March 2020, as XRP continued to observe higher lows from this level.

The asset eventually broke above the upper trendline amid the upsurge in November 2024, rallying by more than 280% that month. After a brief pullback that lasted for three weeks, XRP rebounded, with this recovery push eventually leading to the 4,987 KRW ATH by late January 2025.

Massive Uptrend Ahead

Notably, when an asset reaches a price discovery phase, it typically witnesses a “free run” to greater heights, as the bears have no decisive past resistance level to capitalize on. This confirms XRP’s potential to secure higher levels once it recovers the 4,987 KRW peak when the ongoing pullback ends. Bollinger also noted that XRP could be the market leader for the broader recovery.

Last October, right before the November 2024 explosion, market analyst Zach Rector shared similar sentiments. The analyst argued that XRP’s suppression was over, and it was “free to run.” A month later, the asset spiked 280%. Despite the upsurge from November and December 2024, Rector still insisted that XRP was “incredibly undervalued.”

In previous disclosures, he had championed some ambitious goals. In January 2025, Rector asserted that ETF inflows could help push XRP to $33. Last October, another analyst, Ralston Maximus, argued that the $30 to $35 price is not ridiculous for XRP. Currently, XRP changes hands for $2.33 and 3,421 KRW.

North Korea Hackers Now Hold More Bitcoin Than Bhutan and El Salvador: Here’s How Much They Own

0

North Korean government-tied serial hackers The Lazarus group now outholds major Bitcoin-holding nations after swapping most of the proceeds from the Bybit hack to the premier asset.

The notorious state-backed hackers pulled off the biggest heist in crypto history in February after exploiting prominent crypto exchange Bybit. Lazarus Group stole $1.46 billion worth of crypto, primarily denominated in Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Unconventionally, the hackers, typically known as patient holders of stolen funds before laundering, immediately resorted to laundering the stolen funds. Data from Arkham shows that the serial exploiters have now converted most of the proceeds from the hack to Bitcoin.

North Korea’s Group: The Latest Bitcoin Whale

Per data, North Korea’s Lazarus group now holds 13,518 BTC, worth a staggering $1.13 billion at the asset’s current price. What is more eloquent about this figure is the country’s current position among the Bitcoin-holding governmental entities globally.

North Korea’s current Bitcoin stash places it fourth on the log, outholding top nations like Bhutan and El Salvador. For context, while Bhutan holds 10,634 BTC ($886 million), El Salvador has a stack of 6,118 BTC ($509.5 million).

Unlike North Korea’s sly Bitcoin ownership, these two nations acquired their stash through well-meaning endeavors. El Salvador has pledged to acquire 1 BTC daily as a strategic reserve, while Bhutan leverages its rich hydroelectric power to mine the pioneering cryptocurrency.

Meanwhile, above North Korea are the United States, China, and the United Kingdom. Notably, these global forces did not procure their bitcoins like the state-tied hackers but acquired them through seizures.

The US has 198,109 BTC ($16.47 billion), China boasts 195,000 BTC, and the UK holds 61,245 BTC ($5.1 billion).

North Korea’s Bitcoin Reserve Ploy?

Interestingly, the recent hack and conversion correlated with the United States’ realized efforts to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Pro-crypto President Donald Trump had teased the idea since his campaign days, recently signing off the strategy in an executive order in early March.

Meanwhile, the Lazarus Group’s choice of Bitcoin after the Bybit hack has raised curiosity about the state-tied group’s intentions. Could they be angling to hold the largest cryptocurrency by market cap and join other elites in the rankings?

In the meantime, the nation’s crypto strategy has become a concern for the industry. The serial hackers have pulled off jaw-dropping heists to fund North Korea’s foreign currency reserve amid Western sanctions.

Cardano Bull Targets $12 as ADA Supertrend Remains on Track

0

Analyst Dan Gambardello has signaled a bullish outlook for Cardano, highlighting an ascending trendline and a potential double-digit price target.

Cardano (ADA) experienced a sharp decline before recovering within a 24-hour period, highlighting market volatility. The cryptocurrency fluctuated between $0.69 and $0.74. The price dipped significantly before stabilizing around the $0.70 support level.

ADA posted a 4.0% daily loss, while its weekly and monthly declines stood at 4.2% and 11.7%, respectively. However, on a year-over-year basis, the asset maintained a 6.9% gain, indicating resilience despite recent setbacks.

Cardano Supertrend On Pace

Meanwhile, a recent analysis by Dan Gambardello identified bullish indicators for Cardano. In a tweet, he shared a chart showing an ascending trendline, suggesting a potential upward reversal. According to Gambardello, “Cardano’s supertrend is on pace.”

The accompanying chart shows ADA has formed a rounded bottom pattern, often associated with accumulation before an uptrend. The projected outlook suggested a long-term price target above $12.00.

Notably, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) showed a reading above 50 and an upward curve. If this trend continues, the RSI could reach 80, indicating increased buying momentum. Notably, such a move could reinforce bullish sentiment, supporting a price surge.

Views of Other Market Watchers on ADA Price Potential

On March 13, market commentator Alex Becker commented on ADA’s price outlook, suggesting a potential fourfold to fivefold increase from its current level.

Speaking in a YouTube podcast, he noted that investors leveraging the dip could see significant returns. The analyst referenced Cardano’s recent price movements, including a sharp spike to above $1 earlier this month following Donald Trump’s announcement regarding U.S. crypto reserves.

Despite his past criticism of the asset, Becker emphasized that ADA’s current price remains undervalued. He compared this dip to past corrections, such as Bitcoin’s 25% drop from its peak and the broader market sell-offs during the FTX collapse and the COVID-19 crash. He stressed that historically, these downturns presented strong buy opportunities.

Becker also highlighted Solana, Near, and Bittensor as crypto poised for long-term gains. While he did not specify a timeline for ADA’s growth, he maintained that multiple all-time highs remain achievable within years.

Active Addresses and Network Growth

Additionally, data from IntoTheBlock revealed increased activity on the Cardano network. Daily Active Addresses recorded a 7-day increase of 11.99%. Also, zero-balance addresses rose by 12.26%, indicating new user adoption.

Meanwhile, network activity posted a 4.79% weekly gain, reinforcing growing on-chain interactions.
