Manchester United and Tezos are joining hands.
Blockchain platform Tezos will become the new sponsor of the football club “Manchester United,” according to The Athletic. The parties allegedly agreed on a multi-year partnership worth over £20 million per year.
The previous eight-year contract – with insurance broker Aon – expired at the end of last season. The current team is playing without an official training sponsor.
According to the publication, the club has held talks with several potential partners, including several in the blockchain space, and is now due to unveil a significant deal with Tezos. As part of the agreement, Tezos will display its logo on the team’s training uniforms.
It is also believed that the deal may involve collaboration beyond the United’s training kit, which would help United in their attempts to maximize opportunities in the technology space, including the metaverse and “web 3.0”.
The Athletic claim that the deal has already been signed and the football club has filmed all relevant promotional materials.
In May, Red Bull Racing Honda announced a partnership with Tezos in which blockchain secured a deal to create the first NFT experience for a racing team. Tezos has also become a sponsor of McClaren Racing in Formula 1, Indycar, and Esports.
In January 2022, French esports organization Team Vitality named Tezos as its leading technical partner, in what has been described as one of the largest deals in “European esports history,” in which Tezos provided visibility on the front of a T-shirt.
