Elon Musk, CEO and founder of American electric car company Tesla, has disclosed that he plans to start his own social network that would support the dog-themed cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE).

Independent writes, Musk, a major cryptocurrency proponent, made this known after creating a poll on Twitter asking his followers to vote on whether the popular microblogging platform supports the principle of free speech. 

The CEO of Tesla requested that his more than 79 million followers take the poll seriously, as he added that the consequence of the poll would be imperative. 

A total of two million respondents participated in the Twitter poll, with 70% of the users choosing “NO” as the answer to Musk’s questions. 

Following the result, Musk tweeted again, seeking a response from his followers by asking

“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” 

Based on Musk’s question, a user replied that the Dogecoin enthusiast should develop a new social media platform that would feature an open-source algorithm, where free speech will be permitted as a top priority and propaganda reduced to its lowest level.

to which Mr. Musk replied, I Am giving serious thought to this.”

Musk, who seems to have bought into the initiative, noted that if he creates a new social media network, the platform will have a tipping jar feature that includes Dogecoin.

“Elon added that any new platform would include a digital tip jar that would support the meme-inspired cryptocurrency dogecoin.”
