Popular cryptocurrency payment provider BitPay has announced that users can now buy and play games on Xsolla using XRP as a payment method.

Xsolla, a video gaming startup, has become the latest merchant to accept XRP as a payment method, thanks to a new collaboration with BitPay.

In a post today on X (formerly Twitter), BitPay announced that people can now use XRP to buy and play Xsolla’s games, including SMITE and Roblox.

“You can use your favorite cryptocurrency to buy, play, and enjoy gaming like never before,” BitPay said in a statement.

Xsolla Offerings

Launched in 2005, Xsolla is a global video game startup offering robust tools and services for the gaming sector. Since its inception, the company has created an avenue for game developers to market, launch, and monetize games across several platforms.

Xsolla’s major goal revolves around helping its partners reach different locations, generate more revenues, and ink new partnerships with top gamers. The company plans to achieve this goal by solving the inherent problems associated with the global distribution of games.

Xsolla recently announced that the platform will attend Money 20/20 in Nevada, Las Vegas.

BitPay and Xsolla

Meanwhile, the Xsolla and BitPay partnership dates back to 2014. At the time, Xsolla entered into a partnership with BitPay to process BTC payments for gamers worldwide.

They have remained as partners ever since, with Xsolla continuing to accept various cryptocurrencies supported on BitPay. Last month, BitPay announced that Xsolla will be among the first merchants to accept PayPal USD (PYUSD), allowing users to purchase goods online using the stablecoin.

Today, Bitpay confirms Xsolla now accepts XRP.

BitPay Supports XRP

Recall that BitPay added support for XRP in 2019 following its partnership with Ripple’s investment arm Xpring. Like most US-based crypto-related companies, BitPay stopped processing XRP-related payments after the SEC charged Ripple with violating federal securities law.

Following the court’s ruling that declared XRP itself as a non-security, the company relisted the crypto asset on its platform in August.

“Starting immediately, BitPay users can buy XRP, store securely with self-custody in the BitPay Wallet, buy gift cards, swap XRP, and spend XRP with BitPay merchants,” the crypto payment provider said in a statement.

Per the announcement, BitPay users can spend XRP across hundreds of merchants such as AMC Theaters, Newegg, Hublot, AirBaltic, Namecheap, and Scan Computers.

Growing Adoption of XRP Payments

Besides BitPay, Ripple and other companies, including FCF Pay, have also played a role in boosting the widespread adoption of XRP as a payment method.

As reported earlier, Ripple partnered with crypto payment provider Lunu to enable Berlin-based luxury retailers to accept digital currencies, including XRP, via its Liquidity Hub.

Furthermore, FCF Pay announced this month that Bitcoin miners can pay their electricity bills using XRP.
