Galaxy Digital Predicts What Price Dogecoin Will Reach in 2025

0

Notable cryptocurrency firm Galaxy Digital shares its opinion on Dogecoin price and market cap expectations for the year 2025.

The cryptocurrency market recorded significant milestones last year. Some of them include a new high for Bitcoin, the maiden launch of the US Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and the election of the first openly pro-crypto US president in history.

Meanwhile, a new year is upon us, and with it comes fresh price outlooks. Galaxy Digital, one of the biggest crypto firms, has predicted what price the Shiba Inu-themed meme coin Dogecoin will attain before the end of 2025.

Galaxy Research Provides Dogecoin Outlook

Alex Thorn, the head of research at Galaxy Digital, has asserted that Dogecoin, the largest meme coin by market cap, will finally reach a $100 billion market cap. Notably, this valuation is unprecedented for the meme coin, whose market cap peaked at $98.47 billion in 2021.

For context, the $100 billion valuation will bring Dogecoin’s price to $0.678, 8% below its current all-time high of $0.739. Also, Dogecoin would surge an impressive 87% from the present market price to hit $0.678.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Research does not expect Dogecoin to peak there. Per its analysis, the meme coin will surpass its current ATH this year and finally attain a one-dollar valuation.

A surge to $1 will ensure Dogecoin’s market cap trades at $147.47 billion, an impressive 176% from the current valuation. Its price would also see a similar uptick to reach $1.

Notably, Galaxy Research also provided price expectations for other cryptocurrencies. The firm asserted that Bitcoin will hit $185,000 and Ethereum $5,550 by the end of the year.

Conservative or Ambitious?

Galaxy Digital’s Dogecoin prediction followed speculations from other analysts. Notably, the firm’s call seems conservative compared to existing predictions of the meme coin leader’s upsurge potential this year.

For context, Ali Martinez has insisted that Dogecoin will target ranges between $4 and $23, citing multiple price catalysts. Some of them include an upsurge to the tip of its ascending channel and a possible repeat of its 2021 bull cycle feat.

Furthermore, an analysis from Tradigrade has shown that Dogecoin will hit $11. The market speculator based his assertion on a possible breakout from the Gaussian channel.

In the meantime, Dogecoin trades at $0.361, up over 6% in the past 24 hours.

Wall Street Analyst Reflects on Bitcoin Bet Above $100K from a 10-Year Perspective

0

Hedge fund titan Cliff Asness, founder of AQR Capital Management, reflects on the “costly mistakes” of investing in U.S. equities, private equity, and Bitcoin over the next decade.

Asness presents his warning from a future perspective. He foresees the downfall of Bitcoin and paints a picture of institutional investors’ reckless plunge into the crypto market. Specifically, he offers a humorous yet sobering glimpse into the consequences of speculative bubbles.

Critics View Bitcoin from a 2035 Perspective

In the lengthy article, Asness paints the case of a firm’s hesitant dive into cryptocurrency. Initially dismissive of Bitcoin’s value and viewing it as “silly,” the institutional investor eventually succumbed to the hype when Bitcoin hit the $100,000 mark in late 2024.

Their initial hesitation turned into fervent enthusiasm as they became convinced they had missed out on “the next big thing.”

“We realized we had missed out on the next big thing and that leaving computers running did build digital gold,” writes Asness sarcastically.

He describes what followed as a classic case of institutional FOMO (fear of missing out). Specifically, Asness details how the firm’s portfolio managers ramped up their position to 10% of the portfolio after Bitcoin’s price spiked from $100,000 to $250,000—driven, in his view, by “rumors” of government strategic reserve and an Elon Musk tweet.

“We added a 5% allocation in late 2024 at a $100K Bitcoin and doubled up the very next year when it went up to $250,000,” he said sarcastically.

The Crash to $10,000

However, by 2035, Asness paints a starkly different picture. Bitcoin, once hailed as the future of money, has crashed to around $10,000, leaving many investors holding the bag.

According to him, the only positive takeaway would be the diversified crypto allocation. He speculated a scenario where the institution had put 90% in Bitcoin and 10% in a lesser-known cryptocurrency, humorously referred to as “Fartcoin,” which ended up being one of “the only coins still holding any real value by 2035.”

The “Levered Bitcoin Play” Fail

Furthermore, Asness also targets another failed strategy involving a Bitcoin-related stock—something he called a “levered Bitcoin play,” which, according to him, turned out to be disastrous.

The stock, designed to magnify the price movements of Bitcoin, was bought at a significant premium, only to plummet as Bitcoin’s value fell.

Asness mocks the misguided belief that such an investment could offer any “arbitrage,” describing it as akin to “Russian Roulette.”

“Sadly, the only thing that worked for us was staying away from the more ludicrous investments, like the levered Bitcoin play,” he wrote.

The End of the Crypto Dream?

Asness’ reflections on the wild ride of crypto investments over the next decade look to offer a sobering reminder of the dangers of speculative bubbles.

In his view, in ten years, many institutional investors may realize that the Bitcoin dream would have turned into a costly nightmare.

Moreover, he suggests that by then, while some diehard believers may still remain in the cryptocurrency space, the majority will have learned a hard lesson.

“Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us!” Asness concludes.

Meanwhile, he admits that his article is merely based on fictitious investment outcomes of the future, with no guarantee that it will unfold as he has painted it.

However, the crypto community has dismissed the critique as just another in a long list of tirades against Bitcoin by skeptics.

X user Peter remarked that critics have lost the battle of writing Bitcoin obituaries in the present tense and have now resorted to predicting its demise a decade in the future.

While Asness forecasts the death of Bitcoin within ten years, looking back at the past decade, Bitcoin has only continued to grow stronger.

IRS Postpones Implementation of Crypto Tax Rules to 2026

0

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) postpones the implementation of the crypto tax rules to January 1, 2026, allowing exchanges more time to adapt to the requirements.

The decision indicates that the tax agency understands the complexities of the new crypto tax rules. It is worth mentioning that the IRS had initially planned to implement the crypto tax reporting rule this year. However, it extended the implementation to January 1, 2026, almost a year from now.

The extension comes days after the Texas Blockchain Council and Blockchain Association sued the IRS over its plans to tax crypto gains. These organizations contended that the tax regulator overstepped its constitutional bounds by expanding its requirements to the crypto market.

Features of the New Tax Rules

Under the tax rules, crypto exchanges must provide the cost basis of digital assets sold on their platforms. The trading platforms are expected to calculate users’ gains and losses incurred through the sale of digital assets.

Notably, the default accounting method for this calculation is FIFO (First In, First Out). This method assumes that the first units of crypto purchased are the first to be sold, potentially leading to a surge in taxable gains.

Expectedly, concerns about the FIFO method have been raised, with taxpayers indicating it could result in inflated tax bills. Cointracker’s head of tax, Shehan Chandrasekera, shared this sentiment among several crypto stakeholders.

Cause and Benefit of the Extension

This postponement was driven by several factors, particularly inadequate preparation on the path of exchanges, the need for better regulatory clarity, and technological complexity in terms of implementation.

Notably, the postponement offers enormous benefits for both investors and brokers. Brokers now have sufficient time to develop the necessary systems to track the cost basis of digital assets sold on their platforms.

On the other hand, investors can choose other accounting methods, such as HIFO (Highest In, First Out) or Specific Identification (Spec ID), instead of FIFO.

Additional Measures to IRS Crypto Tax Rule

Since the IRS introduced the tax requirement, it has added new measures to strengthen its tax regulation on crypto. It implemented a new tax regime for crypto transactions in June 2024. However, it postponed the requirement for non-custodial wallets and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Two months later, the regulator released the updated version of the 1099-DA tax form. This enhances users’ privacy and simplifies the reporting of crypto transactions.

Last month, the IRS finalized the tax rule for DeFi brokers, mandating these platforms to follow similar reporting obligations as traditional brokers. Also, it maintained its stance on tax gains obtained through crypto staking despite legal actions filed to stop this from happening.

Kaspersky Identifies How Crypto Scam Artistes Now Target Their Victims with Bait Seed Phrases

Cybersecurity outfit Kaspersky warns of new crypto scam making the rounds on YouTube.

From protocols to project founders and individual retail investors, bad actors have spared no one in their pursuit to rip off crypto market participants.

In the latest instance, these bad actors appear to be targeting even their fellow thieves.

A Honey Trap of Sorts?

Prominent cybersecurity outfit Kaspersky has warned of a new crypto scam mainly making the rounds on YouTube. As highlighted by the security outfit, the latest scam is unique as the scammers appear to be targeting fellow unscrupulous elements.

The scammers target their victims by pretending to be helpless crypto novices in YouTube comments. The scammer shares their wallet seed phrases, claiming to have USDT in their wallet but not knowing how to transfer it.

Theoretically, this sounds like the easiest score ever for any aspiring thief or nefarious passerby, especially when they use the seed phrases to open the wallet and find about 8,000 USDT on the Tron network for the taking, needing only a few dollars in TRX tokens for fees, as seen by Kaspersky in one instance.

A screenshot of the scammers shared wallet

There is a catch, however. The wallet in question is a multi-signature wallet that requires permission from two or more other wallets to send transactions.

So when the wannabe thieves turned victims send TRX to the account for gas fees, they will likely find that they can still not move the USDT. But before they might even be able to come to this conclusion, they find that the TRX they sent is immediately sent out to another wallet, the scammer’s wallet.

The latest scam brings to mind the honey trap, a technique used to siphon information from a victim by manipulating their sexual or romantic desire. In this case, however, scammers are banking on human greed.

As highlighted by Kaspersky, regular crypto investors can easily stay safe from this scam by not trying to access other people’s crypto wallets.

Dogecoin Weekly RSI Cools Off with Wave 2 of Cycle 3: Analyst Predicts Largest Moves Ahead

0

Dogecoin (DOGE) enthusiasts may be gearing up for what some analysts call a potentially explosive move in the meme coin’s price.

According to a recent analysis shared by “Bitcoindata21” on X, DOGE’s weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) has cooled off after reaching overbought levels. The analyst noted that this signaled the conclusion of “wave 2” in its current market cycle.

Based on this observation, the analyst suggests that the most significant price movements, possibly leading to new all-time highs, could be on the horizon.

Dogecoin RSI Cooling Signals Potential Upside

The RSI, a widely used momentum indicator, is currently sitting at 61.84 on the weekly timeframe. This represents a dip from previous peaks near 94 during Dogecoin’s major rallies early last month.

Historically, DOGE has seen its most substantial price surges following similar RSI retracements, as highlighted in the chart shared by the analyst.

The chart notes key moments in Dogecoin’s history, including previous instances when RSI levels skyrocketed, coinciding with explosive price movements. Data confirms that the 2017 and 2021 rallies each followed a period of RSI cooling.

What’s Next for DOGE?

Notably, the observed cooling in the momentum indicator came on the back of Dogecoin’s price crash of 46% in December, from $0.4835 to just below $0.26. Now, with the significant cooling off from the speculative run, analysts expect Dogecoin’s uptrend to resume.

DOGE is already showing a significant improvement in its market position. In the last 24 hours, it has seen a 3% uptick, breaking into the $0.35 price range. Today’s rally marks a continuation from the comeback that gained momentum on January 1, when Dogecoin first broke back into the $0.33 price range.

Meanwhile, analysts expect the bulls to continue dominating for the next few weeks and push Dogecoin to an all-time high. Notably, at its current price, Dogecoin is 52% below its ATH of $0.7376.

Market commentators are mainly targeting the $1 price as Dogecoin’s next stop. While “Bitcoindata21” expects Dogecoin to break an ATH next, he did not specify a target.

Commenting on his analysis, one market observer noted that checking the RSI band on the monthly chart is even more promising, arguing that this observation makes a 5X run or price targets between $1.5 and $2 “realistic” in their view.

Still, these projections remain conservative when considering some analysts expect Dogecoin to reach $37 within the next five months.

Here’s XRP Price if It Secures Just 0.1% of the $1 Quadrillion Derivatives Market

0

The price of XRP could soar to remarkable levels if it manages to secure even a tiny share of the colossal derivatives market.

Amid growing speculations, the possibilities have captivated the XRP community. Notably, the global derivatives market is among the largest financial sectors. Some estimates suggest its notional value could surpass $1 quadrillion.

While some experts believe these figures are exaggerated, the market’s potential remains vast, and even a minimal stake could yield transformative results for XRP.

XRP Price if It Captures 0.1% of the Market

If XRP were to capture just 0.1% of the $1 quadrillion derivatives market, this would equate to $1 trillion. Notably, XRP has a maximum supply of around 99.98 billion tokens. Accordingly, a $1 trillion market cap would translate to a price of approximately $10 per token.

This scenario represents a significant leap from XRP’s current trading price of approximately $2.41. In particular, reaching $10 would imply a return of approximately 463% for current holders. Numerous market commentators believe the $10 price is a conservative outlook for XRP in 2025.

Ripple’s Strategic Moves in the Derivatives Market

Speculations about XRP’s involvement in the derivatives market intensified following developments around Ripple and Bitstamp. Specifically, the Bitstamp cryptocurrency exchange is preparing to launch a derivatives platform, with some reports suggesting Ripple could play a role in the initiative.

Additionally, Ripple joined the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) in August 2023, signaling its interest in the derivatives space. Furthermore, Ripple’s $25 million investment in Bitnomial, a U.S.-based derivatives exchange, highlights its commitment to exploring this sector.

Challenges and Considerations

While the derivatives market’s notional value is often cited as $1 quadrillion, critics argue that this figure represents the total value of all derivative contracts rather than actual economic exposure. The gross market value, which better reflects the true economic impact, was estimated at $17.1 trillion as of mid-2024.

This discrepancy highlights the importance of cautious optimism when forecasting XRP’s potential market share. Moreover, the possibility of XRP reaching $10 by capturing just 0.1% of the derivatives market is a speculative estimate. The actual figures could vary.

Despite these challenges, Ripple’s ongoing initiatives and partnerships could pave the way for XRP to capture even a modest fraction of the derivatives market, significantly boosting its value.

SUI Targets $4.50 Breakout Amid Triangle Formation

Will the SUI price trend continue within a triangle pattern, surpassing the $4.50 psychological barrier and sparking a bull run?

Despite increased volatility in Bitcoin prices, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization (excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum) remains strong at a $1 trillion valuation. Amidst the relatively stronger altcoin market, SUI finds itself at a pivotal point.

Over the past 24 hours, SUI has experienced a pullback of 1.14%, currently trading at $4.33. However, the fate of SUI is still within a triangle pattern.

SUI Price Analysis

The 4-hour chart reveals that SUI price action is supported by a local support trendline. In conjunction with the ascending trendline, the convergence of the 20, 50, and 100 EMA lines creates a solid demand zone for SUI.

This zone helps absorb the sudden surge in supply, leading to a 1.74% drop and the formation of a bearish engulfing candle. However, the 0.80% rise in the past 4 hours signals a potential bullish reversal if the broader market stabilizes.

SUI Price Chart
SUI Price Chart

The local support trendline and the long-standing resistance trendline form a triangle pattern. This indicates the possibility of a new lower-high formation to challenge the local resistance.

Additionally, the 4-hour RSI remains above the 50 mark, reflecting a positive trend. Therefore, a bullish rebound from the support trendline is likely to challenge the resistance level near the $4.50 psychological mark.

On the other hand, a breakdown below the critical confluence of support elements could test the 200 EMA line at $4.1182.

SUI Network Growth Reveals Underlying Strength

Despite the pullback in the altcoin market, the SUI network metrics are relatively optimistic. The total accounts over the network have increased by 157,511 over the past 24 hours, driving the total accounts to 45.66 million.

SuiScan
SuiScan

Furthermore, the total transactions over the network have reached 7.84 billion, boosting the TVL to $1.75 billion.

SuiScan

As the network regains strength, the total NFTs over the SUI network has increased by 79,646 NFTs in the past 24 hours. This increases the total NFT count over the SUI network to 55.43 million.

Thus, these indicators highlight the network’s resilience and sustained user activity.

Binance’s Changpeng Zhao Says 2025 “Will Be a Send It Year”

0

Binance’s Changpeng “CZ” Zhao offers insights into his crypto market expectations for 2025.

After a largely positive 2024, most crypto market participants are looking to 2025 with significant optimism. This includes former Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao.

Binance’s CZ Says “Send It”

Binance’s Changpeng “CZ” Zhao has offered insights on his expectations for 2025. In an X post on Friday, January 3, CZ asserted that “2025 will be a ‘send it’ year,” referencing the popular phrase often used by crypto market participants to express excitement when asset prices are soaring.

Indeed, the crypto community appears to have a lot to be excited about going into 2025. For one, the industry is anticipating an unprecedentedly supportive regulatory environment under the incoming Donald Trump administration. At the same time, the market looks set to benefit from improving global liquidity as central banks continue quantitative easing efforts.

Meanwhile, institutional adoption continues to grow at a rapid pace, as reflected in the billions pouring into the market through Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded products and the high demand for stocks of companies with Bitcoin treasury holdings.

Furthermore, several countries, including the U.S., are mulling strategic Bitcoin reserves.

Amid this confluence of tailwinds, researchers and analysts are targeting significantly higher crypto asset prices in 2025.

The Best Year Ever?

In line with Binance’s CZ’s view, financial research firm Steno Research asserted that 2025 will be crypto’s best year ever in its forecast for the year, setting price targets of $150,000 and $8,000 for Bitcoin and Ethereum, respectively.

At the same time, the firm predicts that altcoins will soar, supported by the anticipated favorable regulations under Trump. According to the firm, total value locked (TVL) in DeFi protocols is expected to hit a record high of $300 billion from current levels of about $123 billion.

Terraform Founder Do Kwon Pleads Not Guilty in $40B Collapse

0

Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs Pte., pleaded not guilty to U.S. fraud charges linked to the $40 billion collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin.

Kwon entered his plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Lehrburger in Manhattan and agreed to remain in custody without bail. The 33-year-old former crypto executive faces nine criminal charges, including wire, securities, and commodities fraud.

The charges stem from allegations that Kwon misled investors about the Terra blockchain’s technology and adoption levels. His court appearance in New York concluded a prolonged legal battle between the U.S. and South Korea over extradition rights. Authorities in Montenegro arrested Kwon in March 2023 for attempting to travel using a falsified passport, triggering extradition requests from both nations.

Legal Drama Spanning Multiple Jurisdictions

Kwon made a U.S. court appearance upon his arrest in Montenegro alongside Terraform’s former chief financial officer, who was also arrested at the same time. Both individuals were apprehended for attempting to board a private jet bound for Dubai using fake documents. After their arrest, Montenegro sentenced them to four months for document forgery.

Meanwhile, New York and Seoul prosecutors filed charges related to Terraform’s collapse in 2022. The implosion of TerraUSD, an algorithmic stablecoin, and its companion token, LUNA, had devastating effects on the crypto market.

LUNA’s value plummeted from over $100 to nearly zero, causing significant investor losses. The downturn contributed to broader market instability.

Kwon’s extradition was finalized on December 28, 2024, when Montenegro’s Minister of Justice approved the U.S. request. Although South Korea sought custody of Kwon, Montenegro opted to send him to the U.S., citing its strong security partnership with the nation. Notably, Kwon had argued for extradition to South Korea.

Broader Fallout and Related Legal Actions

In addition to the criminal charges, Kwon faced civil actions from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). A jury found Kwon and Terraform liable for fraud in 2024, leading to a $4.47 billion settlement agreement. However, Terraform Labs subsequently filed for bankruptcy, complicating the settlement’s enforcement.

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office will handle Kwon’s prosecution, adding him to a growing list of major cryptocurrency figures facing legal action. This includes FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who received a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted on fraud charges. The next hearing in Kwon’s case is scheduled for January 8.

Bitcoin Bulls Target $99,514 Amid Golden Crossover Potential

Will Bitcoin (BTC) continue its price recovery this week and surpass the $100,000 level?

As the crypto market shifts toward a bullish sentiment in January 2025, Bitcoin is steadily approaching the $100,000 milestone. With a 1.42% surge in the past 24 hours, Bitcoin is maintaining dominance above the $96,000 level.

However, this gradual growth has not received significant institutional support from the ETF market. With BlackRock registering its largest-ever outflow, will the Bitcoin price continue its upward momentum?

Bitcoin Price Analysis

In the 4-hour chart, the BTC price trend reveals a bullish breakout of the local resistance trend line. With a post-retest reversal, the BTC price makes a bullish comeback above the $96,000 level, marking its third consecutive positive day.

Bitcoin Price Chart
Bitcoin Price Chart

The recovery run saw a price increase from $92,637 to $96,900, reflecting a 4.61% rise. However, the intraday pullback of 0.11% has dropped the current market value to $96,804.

This represents a minor retest of the broken 100 EMA line on the 4-hour chart. Furthermore, the recovery rally has resulted in a bullish crossover between the 20 and 50 EMA lines, increasing the likelihood of a golden crossover.

The 4-hour RSI has shifted sideways, just below the overbought boundary, indicating an overall bullish sentiment. Consequently, the dynamic average lines and momentum indicator are signaling a buy for Bitcoin.

BlackRock Sees Outflow as Other Bitcoin ETFs Recover

Despite the bullish trend in the market, institutional support for Bitcoin continues to weaken. While five out of nine Bitcoin ETFs registered positive inflows on Thursday, BlackRock’s IBIT ETF experienced a massive outflow of $332.62 million.

This results in a daily net outflow of $242.30 million. Notably, the Thursday negative flow from BlackRock, the largest Bitcoin ETF, represented its biggest-ever outflow.

BTC Price Targets

With a post-retest reversal from the 100 EMA line, Bitcoin’s bull run is likely to target the immediate resistance at $99,514. A breakthrough could significantly increase the chances of Bitcoin reclaiming the $100,000 mark in January 2025.

However, a decline below the 100 EMA line would alter the current market dynamics. This could lead to a retest of the 50 EMA line at $95,304.
