Bitcoin Has Real Value Because It’s Hard to Produce, Says Former UK Minister Rees-Mogg

Former Brexit Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg has warned the Bank of England against undermining confidence in fiat currency, drawing parallels with both Bitcoin and gold.

This came during a recent commentary on his YouTube channel. He stressed that the value of fiat currency ultimately lies in public confidence, an illusion that can easily collapse.

Rees-Mogg was responding to the Bank of England’s plan to redesign UK banknotes with more modern imagery. However, he warned that such changes risk eroding the perceived authority and continuity of the currency.

“The way to preserve value is to create the illusion that it exists,” he said, holding up modern and historic coins to show how design continuity has long served to command trust.

Gold, Paper, and Now Bitcoin

Tracing the history of fiat currency back to 11th-century China and the gold-backed British pound of the pre-WWI era, Rees-Mogg highlighted the instability of paper money and the historical consistency of gold as a store of value.

He noted that from 1660 to 1914, the purchasing power of the pound remained almost exactly the same. Meanwhile, Gold remained a solid store of value and a reliable means of exchange, he said.

By contrast, he argued that paper currencies have “always led to inflation” and ultimately serve as a hidden tax on savers and bondholders.

Rees-Mogg also noted that maintaining the perception of value is crucial for paper currency as it lacks intrinsic worth, just like modern coins made from base metals. In contrast, older coins, such as a silver shilling from the reign of Charles I, retain value due to their metal content.

In this context, Rees-Mogg added that gold, and even Bitcoin, hold real value because of scarcity and they cannot be created at will, unlike fiat money, which governments can print in unlimited quantities, as seen after the 2008 financial crisis.

Believing that paper money has inherent value, Rees-Mogg argues, is a dangerous illusion.

Bitcoin’s Scarcity

While not a full endorsement of cryptocurrency, Rees-Mogg’s remarks suggest an openness to Bitcoin’s fundamental principle: limited supply. Bitcoin operates on a decentralized, transparent protocol with a fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins. It is unlike fiat money, which governments can print in large quantities.

This “hardness” of Bitcoin production is increasingly gaining recognition from traditional financial commentators as a potential hedge against inflation and central bank overreach.

Designs That Undermine Trust

Notably, Rees-Mogg’s broader concern focused on the symbolism and design of currency, which he believes play an important psychological role in maintaining public faith. He argues that removing historical figures in favor of modern imagery weakens the illusion of continuity and undermines trust in fiat.

“When confidence collapses, so does the currency,” he warned, citing the hyperinflation episodes of Weimar Germany and Zimbabwe.

Crypto Community Responds

Rees-Mogg’s comments were widely picked up across crypto-focused social platforms. Many users interpreted them as validation of long-held arguments about Bitcoin’s scarcity and value proposition.

While Rees-Mogg did not call Bitcoin a superior alternative to fiat, he acknowledged its production constraints. His words add another voice from the political mainstream to the ongoing conversation about crypto’s place in the future monetary landscape.

MARA Holdings Plans $850 Million Capital Raise to Buy More Bitcoin

0

U.S. Bitcoin mining giant MARA Holdings has unveiled a comprehensive $850 million financing initiative to expand its BTC reserves, reduce liabilities, and strengthen its balance sheet.

The company, listed on the Nasdaq under ticker symbol MARA, is issuing 0% convertible senior notes maturing in 2032, in a private offering to qualified institutional investors.

The financing round also includes an option to raise an additional $150 million. This could push the total capital raised to $1 billion, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Zero-Interest Convertible Notes with Flexible Options

The proposed notes will carry no coupon, meaning investors will receive no regular interest payments. Instead, holders may convert the notes into cash, MARA common stock, or a combination of both—subject to certain conditions prior to May 1, 2032, and at any time thereafter until maturity. The notes will mature in August 2032.

However, investors will retain the right to request early repurchase in 2030 if certain stock performance conditions are not met.

MARA, in turn, will have the right to redeem the notes starting in 2030 under specific market conditions. This setup provides the company with a flexible and cost-effective way to raise capital, avoiding both immediate dilution and ongoing interest burdens.

Proceeds to Fund Bitcoin Accumulation and Strategic Growth

According to the company, a portion of the proceeds, up to $50 million, will be used to repurchase some of its existing 1% convertible notes maturing in 2026. This move will reduce short-term debt obligations and improve liquidity.

The remaining capital will be directed toward multiple strategic priorities, including increasing its Bitcoin holdings, scaling up mining infrastructure, and supporting general business operations. It will also be used to pursue acquisitions that align with its growth vision.

Additionally, MARA intends to enter into capped call transactions. These are financial hedges designed to reduce potential dilution for existing shareholders if the notes are eventually converted into equity.

This measured approach strengthens the company’s operational base. It also seeks to protect long-term shareholder value amid volatile market dynamics.

Record Bitcoin Holdings and Mining Output

The financing move comes as MARA reports a strong second-quarter performance. The company mined 2,358 BTC in Q2 and now operates 310,000 energized mining rigs.

With 49,951 BTC on its balance sheet, MARA has become the second-largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin, trailing only Strategy Incorporated (MSTR), which currently holds 607,770 BTC, valued at more than $72 billion.

Market Expert Shares Where to Consider a Long on Shiba Inu

0

Shiba Inu has joined a broader market downtrend, and a top market analyst has highlighted where he would consider opening a bullish position.

For context, Shiba Inu has corrected a staggering 7.37% since the start of today and is on course for its largest single-day decline since May 30. This has seen it relinquish some of its 16% gains from last week, as other altcoins face a similar plight.

However, this might be part of a broader bullish picture, analyst CJ shared in a July 23 tweet. He highlighted where he considered to be a good buying opportunity for Shiba Inu, stating he would go long at the zone.

Buy Opportunity at Mid-Range Demand Zone

First, the analyst disclosed that Shiba Inu is on his watchlist, as he likes the macro structure of the meme coin. While he did not provide further context for that, his statement suggests a bullish disposition towards SHIB.

Meanwhile, its price is currently in a downtrend, and CJ has his alerts set at a price range where he considers a good entry point to go long. Specifically, he mentioned that he would consider opening a long position on Shiba Inu if it retraces to the mid-range demand zone.

For context, SHIB has maintained a trend within a price range since early this year, particularly since February 2. Shiba Inu’s 11.88% drop on the day pushed it into the channel, and it has since failed to break either upward or downward.

Furthermore, Shiba Inu has revisited the bottom of the channel, which is a strong support area, twice. It did so with April’s lows of $0.00001029 and June’s lows of $0.00001004. SHIB also surged to the top of the channel, reaching a high of $0.00001765 on May 12, before facing a price rejection.

As a result, the upper boundary stands at around $0.00001764 and the lower boundary at $0.00001004. An accompanying chart shows that the mid-range zone stands between $0.0000142 and $0.0000128.

Shiba Inu Analysis/CJ

Remarkably, Shiba Inu has broken below the upper range of this mid-demand zone at the time of writing but remains above the lower range. This suggests that SHIB is well within the analyst’s range for a good buy opportunity.

What’s Next for Shiba Inu

Interestingly, CJ does not expect Shiba Inu to fall below this price range. His chart suggests that the meme coin will rebound from the mid-range demand zone to higher prices.

Precisely, the market watcher predicts a rally to finally break the upper resistance of the multi-month price range to over $0.0000190. Such an upsurge from its current price of $0.00001416 would represent an over 34% growth and would take SHIB to a 6-month high.

Notably, recent on-chain data analysis indicates a supply cluster between $0.0000140 and $0.0000190. If Shiba Inu survives this, as CJ’s analysis suggests, it would likely rally to the next level at $0.000024 and subsequently to $0.000035.

Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon to Offer Tokenized Money Market Funds

0

Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon are set to unveil a platform that would enable institutional clients to trade tokenized shares of money market funds.

Leading media outlet CNBC first learned about the development from executives of the two firms. According to the report, once the platform launches, BNY Mellon clients will be able to invest in tokenized money market funds from various companies.

Notably, top asset managers, including Fidelity Investments, Federated Hermes, and BlackRock, have already signed up for the initiative. Additionally, the asset management arms of BNY Mellon and Goldman Sachs are also involved in the project.

It is worth mentioning that ownership of these money market fund shares will be recorded on the public blockchain of Goldman Sachs.

BNY Exec Confirms Initiative

BNY’s global head of liquidity, Laide Majiyagbe, confirmed the tokenized money market fund initiative. In a statement to CNBC, Laide said BNY and Goldman Sachs have created a solution enabling clients to invest in tokenized money market share classes across multiple fund companies.

According to her, it is imperative to tokenize money market funds, as this helps reduce the friction associated with traditional markets.

For context, money market funds invest in short-term securities, including commercial paper and Treasury bills. This asset class has captured the attention of both retail and institutional investors over the years.

Since 2022, investors have committed over $2.5 trillion to the money market industry as part of efforts to hedge against the Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes.

Potential Benefits

At the moment, redeeming shares of traditional money market funds can take up to two business days. This is because redemption usually occurs during working hours. However, BNY and Goldman Sachs believe that with tokenized money market funds, trades and redemption can happen in real-time.

Besides speed and ease of use, tokenizing market funds allows financial intermediaries to transfer the asset class without first converting it to fiat currencies. Meanwhile, Matthew McDermott, Goldman Sachs’ global head of digital assets, said this ability could streamline the use of money market funds as collateral for trades.

Both Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon are convinced that tokenizing the money market industry, estimated at $7.1 trillion, is the next frontier for digital assets following the enactment of the GENIUS stablecoin law.

Crypto Liquidations Top $300M in 4 Hours as Bitcoin and the Crypto Market Correct

0

The market has recorded massive crypto liquidations over the past few hours amid the recent roadblock to the Bitcoin and broader market rally.

According to data from Coinglass, liquidations have soared to over $507 million in the last 24 hours. A significant portion of this damage occurred in just four hours, where more than $300 million in leveraged positions were wiped out.

Crypto Liquidations Tilt to Long Positions

Notably, long traders suffered the most, with $271.07 million in long positions liquidated in this brief window, compared to $29.01 million in shorts. This short-term wipeout points to a rapid market downturn that caught many bullish traders off guard.

Interestingly, the data further shows that within 12 hours, the market saw $380.53 million in liquidations, including $335.64 million from long positions and $44.89 million from short positions.

Meanwhile, over the past hour alone, crypto liquidations stood at $179.76 million, with longs again making up the majority at $171.45 million, while shorts only accounted for $8.31 million. Notably, these increased liquidation figures emerged due to expectations of further upside as the Crypto FGI flips to “Extreme Greed.”

Notably, over the full 24-hour period, a total of 174,569 traders were liquidated, contributing to the cumulative $507.64 million loss. Long traders saw $380.66 million of that total, while short positions made up $126.98 million.

The largest individual liquidation order occurred on Binance, involving the ETH/USDT pair and valued at $3.97 million. Also, in terms of asset-specific damage, Ethereum led the chart with $112.02 million in liquidations, followed by Bitcoin with $52.49 million, and then XRP with $48.76 million.

Despite Recent Declines, Bitcoin and the Broader Market Hold up Well

Despite the aggressive long crypto liquidations, data shows that the market remains volatile but not entirely in decline. For instance, Bitcoin is currently trading for $117,826, experiencing only a slight dip of 0.37% over the last 24 hours.

While Bitcoin traded around $118,400 earlier in the day, analyst Crypto Virtuos confirmed that the firstborn crypto had been trading sideways for some time, and this hinted at a possible short-term correction.

He suggested there would be a minor pullback of about 6–7%, which could bring BTC down to the $113,000 range, aligning with the key 0.618 Fibonacci level. However, he remained confident in the broader uptrend and believes the next leg up could take Bitcoin as high as $138,000.

BTC has dropped below the $118,000 mark since then. Meanwhile, Ethereum, which faced the highest liquidation volume, has given up the $3,800, $3,700, and now the $3,600 psychological levels. While it dropped 1.02% in the past hour and 1.67% over 24 hours, the asset has still posted a weekly gain of 12.79%.

Also, XRP has given up the $3.3 region, now trading for $3.29. It has shed 1.87% in the past hour and 5.11% in 24 hours, though it remains up by 10.5% over the week. Solana also faced downward pressure, falling 1.71% in the past hour and 3.83% in a day to trade at $191.20.

Pundit Says One Day Investors Will Wish They Had Bought XRP When It Was Under $5

Market pundit John Squire argues that XRP remains cheap at under $5, warning that a new wave of regret may follow once it breaks into uncharted territory.

Squire shared this perspective on X, presenting a bullish take on XRP’s future. Specifically, he claimed that someday, investors will say they wish they had bought XRP when it was still below $5.

His message echoes a popular sentiment in the XRP community that current price levels — though significantly higher than in previous cycles — still represent early entry points before the next major rally.

With XRP currently trading around $3.46 after recently peaking at $3.66, the asset has posted a 478% gain over the past year. While some investors hesitate to buy into what appears to be a heated rally, Squire suggests they may soon regret staying on the sidelines.

XRP at $10 No Longer a Meme, Influencers Say Rally Is Just Beginning

Squire’s statement aligns with recent commentaries from other top XRP influencers. One recently declared that price targets of $10 or more for XRP “are no longer just a meme.”

At the same time, technical analyst Dennis Liu outlined what he considers a realistic path for XRP to reach $10 and higher during this market cycle.

According to Liu, legal clarity from the SEC settlement, rising institutional demand, and upcoming catalysts like a spot ETF approval, Ripple’s IPO, and a potential U.S. banking license are all transforming XRP’s market dynamics.

Liu projected that XRP could hit $5 as early as next month, August 2025. He also noted that $10 is possible during the peak of market euphoria.

Indeed, if that scenario plays out, buying XRP under $5 could indeed be remembered as a once-in-a-cycle opportunity.

Real Gains Already Happening, And More May Be Ahead

Notably, for early investors, XRP has already delivered substantial returns. A $10,000 investment in November 2024, when XRP traded at $0.50, would now be worth around $72,000, a 632% increase.

Influencers like CrediBULL and Moon Lambo have also reported 14x to 20x returns on their long-term XRP holdings. They use this turnaround to confirm the idea that long-term conviction continues to pay off.

These analysts argue that the next round of profits will go to those who still see value at current prices and remain committed through the next phase of the bull run.

Regret Is a Recurring Theme in XRP’s History

Recently, meme coin investor Dave Portnoy admitted to selling $3 million worth of XRP just before it surged over 50%. Likewise, others who hesitated to buy at $1 or $2 earlier this year now find themselves looking at $3.50+ prices.

Ultimately, John Squire’s warning suggests a potential repeat of this pattern. As XRP edges closer to $5, the window to buy “cheap” may be closing. Those waiting for another dip could end up watching from the sidelines as XRP enters a new valuation range.

Here’s What $10,000 in XRP Is Worth Now If Bought at $0.50 Just Months Back

As XRP trades near its all-time high, long-time investors are relishing the moment.

Currently trading at $3.46, XRP is up 72% over the past month. Looking at the one-year scale, the gains are even more impressive, with a massive 478% increase.

Given how much XRP has appreciated in recent months, this article explores the current value of a $10,000 investment made in XRP just eight months ago, when it sold at $0.50.

What $10,000 in XRP Then Is Worth Now

Notably, XRP last traded at the $0.50 level on November 11, 2024. Since then, its price has followed an upward trajectory without looking back.

In the first week of November, before the peak of this uptrend, one could have purchased 20,000 XRP tokens with a $10,000 investment. For comparison, investing $10,000 in XRP today would only buy only about 2,890 tokens.

Considering XRP’s price peaked at $3.66, the original $10,000 investment would have grown to $73,200. This represents a staggering 632% return in less than nine months. Even after a slight pullback from the peak, the portfolio would still be worth approximately $72,000.

Importantly, these numbers are not hypothetical. Several XRP influencers have publicly shared the profits they’ve earned from holding XRP over the years.

Analysts Declaring Massive Profits from Holding XRP

Earlier this week, analyst CrediBULL revealed he is up more than 19x from the $10,000 he invested to buy 53,692 XRP at $0.1835 each in 2019. His portfolio reached a peak valuation of $196,512 on July 18.

According to him, the current gains are just the beginning. He predicts XRP could reach $30 within the next 12 months.

Similarly, crypto YouTuber Moon Lambo reported a 14x return on his XRP investment. He first purchased XRP in November 2017 at an average price of $0.25 and claims he hasn’t sold any since. Despite market volatility, his confidence in XRP’s fundamentals kept him committed.

These impressive returns have emboldened XRP influencers to encourage others not to fade XRP and to increase their exposure to the coin.

HODL for the Long Term

Moon Lambo has urged the XRP community to adopt a long-term mindset, emphasizing that the current rally is just the beginning. Other long-time advocates of this view include Edoardo Farina and Oscar Ramos.

According to Ramos, many will regret not fully committing to XRP. Two weeks ago, he urged investors to prioritize the coin, and since then, XRP has surged 52.5%.

Ramos believes ignoring XRP’s positive momentum could be a costly mistake, a sentiment now echoed by media personality Dave Portnoy, who sold $3 million worth of XRP just before the coin spiked 60%.

Edoardo Farina, in his own commentary, warned that even selling XRP at $10 could be a lifetime mistake. He argues that taking early profits may lead to deep regret if XRP reaches its full potential in future cycles.

Drawing parallels with Bitcoin, Farina emphasized patience and speculates that XRP could one day trade between $100 and $10,000 per coin. However, such bullish projections are often dismissed as speculative.

Bitcoin Analyst Highlights New Dogecoin Entry Price Point, Forecasts Catch-Up Rally to $0.48

0

Popular Bitcoin proponent Lark Davis identifies a new Dogecoin entry price point for investors who missed out on the latest DOGE breakout.

Notably, Dogecoin’s price skyrocketed tremendously over the past week, soaring from a seven-day low of $0.1994 to nearly $0.29 on July 21. However, it has retraced slightly from this level, dropping to $0.26 at the time of writing.

New Dogecoin Entry Point and Support

In a post on X, Lark Davis, a Bitcoin analyst with 1.4 million X followers, highlighted a major Dogecoin support level. The support, which falls within the $0.245 – $0.255 price region, is marked with an orange box in the accompanying Dogecoin chart.

This zone served as a major resistance for Dogecoin between May and early July. Following Dogecoin’s recent rally, the meme coin surpassed the resistance, flipping it into support.

Davis stated that he hopes the orange box, which spans $0.245 to $0.255, serves as critical support for Dogecoin. Specifically, he highlighted $0.25 as a low-risk entry point for anyone who missed Dogecoin’s initial breakout last week.

Catch-Up Rally Target

Despite Dogecoin’s recent surge to a five-month high of $0.2868, Lark still believes that DOGE has lagged behind the performance of other established tokens, such as XRP and Ethereum.

For context, while XRP’s price has soared 66.7% since the beginning of the year, Ethereum has spiked 10.3% in the same timeframe. However, Dogecoin has slumped 17.6% year-to-date, lagging behind Ethereum and XRP.

Interestingly, Davis suggested that Dogecoin could catch up with XRP and Ethereum once it secures the $0.25 support. Once this happens, the analyst projected that DOGE could “rip” toward $0.48, potentially catching up with Ethereum and XRP. Notably, the $0.48 target represents an increase of 84.26% from the current price of $0.2605.

Although Dogecoin is lagging behind XRP and Ethereum in the YTD timeframe, the meme coin has boasted impressive gains in the last 30 days. In particular, Dogecoin’s price has increased by 67% since last month, surpassing Ethereum’s 63.1% gains. Notably, XRP has surged 71% during this time.

Analyst Predicts DOGE Surge to $0.85

Meanwhile, Dogecoin’s recent rally has reignited bullish expectations for the leader of the meme coin market. Earlier this week, TradingView analyst “MangoMan4” highlighted the formation of a bullish structure on Dogecoin’s weekly chart.

As a result, the analyst speculated that the bullish trend could propel the price of Dogecoin to a new all-time high of $0.85. This surpasses the previous ATH of $0.73 by 16.43%.

Expert Shares What’s Next as Dogecoin Retests 146-Day Ascending Channel Following Breakout

0

Dogecoin (DOGE) is currently retesting a multi-month resistance trendline, and its success could pave the way for a rally to higher prices.

For context, analyst Trader Tardigrade noted that Dogecoin is retesting a strong resistance zone from which it emerged recently. The healthy correction has seen DOGE retrace 10% from its Monday high of $0.288, with a broader market bearish momentum also enabling the sideways trend.

Necessary Correction Before Further DOGE Rally

Trader Tardigrade suggested that the channel retest was bullish for Dogecoin, as it would spur further upside trends. Nonetheless, it has to hold above and rebound from the former resistance trendline for this foray.

Meanwhile, the size of the channel further fuels optimism that it would spark a massive parabolic expansion for Dogecoin. For perspective, Dogecoin entered this ascending channel on February 24 following a 13% dump. After dropping into the channel, it traded within it for 146 days before the recent breakout.

Notably, when it traded within the channel, the upper resistance suppressed its bullish momentum and hindered attempts to break free on May 11 and 23. However, now that it has finally breached the resistance following its 38% rally last week, Tardigrade expects a strong northward drive after the retest.

An accompanying chart shows a possible rally to reclaim December’s price high of $0.484. From the current price of $0.26, this would culminate in an 86% surge. It would also mark a 238% surge for those who bought Dogecoin at its lows of $0.143 in June at a time when others panicked.

Dogecoin Fear and Greed Supports Retest

Interestingly, Dogecoin moved further into the “Extreme Greed” territory, a Doge Fear and Greed Index community account shared today. The meme coin has a score of 80, signalling high optimism among market users, but with a cautionary note.

Dogecoin Fear and Greed Index

For context, such high scores connote an aggressive interest among market users, spurred by the sentiment that prices would continue their upward trend. However, the score also warns that the market might be saturated or overheated, and a possible correction could be imminent.

This aligns with the current corrective trend seen in the price of Dogecoin. Nonetheless, as Trader Tardigrade earlier mentioned, a successful retest could spark a bullish shift and another round of price growth.

Notably, earlier analyses also support this sentiment, with one predicting a DOGE rally to a new all-time high of $0.85, while another suggests higher prices, such as $1.46 and $4. Meanwhile, CryptoELITES claims that anyone who does not expect a Dogecoin price of $5 this cycle does not “know anything.”

Expert Reveals How He Achieved 14x Returns on XRP Investment

0

A well-known XRP YouTuber and investor shares the “simple” strategy he adopted to achieve a significant 14x return on his XRP investment.

XRP community members have been expressing mixed reactions to XRP’s recent surge above the $3.5 level. Amid the rally, some users regret selling XRP too soon, while others celebrate the significant returns from their early position.

Notably, famous crypto YouTuber Moon Lambo is among those celebrating their recent XRP wins. With XRP soaring above $3.50 on July 18, Moon Lambo revealed that the value of his XRP investment had increased 14 times.

This implies that he has achieved a 1,300% return on his XRP investment. In perspective, if Moon Lambo had invested $10,000 in XRP, the value of his investment soared to $140,000, representing an ROI of $130,000. However, he did not reveal specific details of his XRP holdings beyond the ROI.

Success Strategy

Meanwhile, the YouTuber disclosed the “simple” strategy he used to achieve this massive 14x return. According to him, he did nothing after buying the XRP tokens beyond holding them.

This suggests that Moon Lambo has held onto his XRP tokens through volatility and has not sold any since his original purchase.

Moreover, he emphasized that there is no trick behind the gains, attributing the success to his firm conviction in XRP, possibly due to his focus on the token’s fundamentals, such as its technology and payment utility.

Never Sold XRP

According to Moon Lambo, he first purchased XRP on November 17, 2017, eight years ago. He set his average “buy price” at $0.25, meaning that he accumulated more tokens at prices well below $1.

Since investing in XRP, Moon Lambo claims he has never sold XRP to lock in profits despite the recent price surge. He suggested that XRP’s rally this cycle is far from over, believing that the token’s price will continue to rise this bull season.

Notably, the YouTuber issued a rallying cry to the broader XRP community, urging investors to HODL (Hold On for Dear Life). He emphasized the need for market participants to adopt a long-term perspective for XRP.

Original Exit Plan Still Valid

When asked whether he still plans to liquidate his position when XRP hits $5, Moon Lambo emphasized that his target exit price and strategy remain unchanged.

He stated that he will stick to his original exit plan irrespective of a major rally, emphasizing that he is “not an emotional twit.”

Having soared to a multi-year high of $3.65 on July 18, XRP has dipped 4.1% to $3.5, where it currently trades. Despite the dip, XRP’s price is still up 72.99% in the past month and 19.76% over the past week.
