Shiba Inu to $0.001 Without Surpassing Bitcoin? Here Are the Facts

Shiba Inu remains one of the top meme-inspired crypto assets that many continue to speculate on for future price action.

The coin started from humble beginnings with numerous zeros, but it is now down to just four as it trades at $0.00001552. Meanwhile, enthusiasts anticipate more progress, eagerly looking forward to when its price could shed even more zeros and reach $0.001.

However, some have wondered whether SHIB can hit $0.001 without surpassing Bitcoin in market dominance. This article analyzes the potential scenarios.

Understanding the Numbers

At the time of writing, Shiba Inu is trading at $0.00001552, with a market capitalization of around $9.2 billion. In contrast, Bitcoin sits comfortably with a market cap of approximately $2.01 trillion, with a price hovering around $103,861.

To explore whether SHIB could hit $0.001 without surpassing Bitcoin, we need to estimate what would happen to SHIB’s market cap if it reached that price. Notably, Shiba Inu’s supply remains at approximately 589 trillion tokens.

With this circulating supply, if SHIB were to hit $0.001, its market cap would rise to $589 billion. This would demand an astonishing growth of 7,297% from the current price level.

So, what does this mean? Even with such a dramatic price increase, SHIB’s market cap would still be nowhere near Bitcoin’s.

Bitcoin’s market cap, sitting at around $1.86 trillion, is nearly three times higher than SHIB’s projected $589 billion at $0.001. This makes it clear that SHIB could reach $0.001 without surpassing Bitcoin’s market dominance.

However, Shiba Inu cannot realistically surge by 7,297% while Bitcoin’s price remains stable at its current position. In other words, if SHIB were to experience such an incredible 73X price movement, Bitcoin’s price would also likely see some notable improvements, though on a smaller scale.

Essentially, the gap between SHIB and Bitcoin could even widen further as Shiba Inu’s price approaches $0.001, making it unlikely that SHIB would surpass Bitcoin in market dominance.

What About Higher Price Targets for Shiba Inu?

If SHIB were to continue its ascent beyond $0.001, the scenario would change. Let’s consider two higher price points for SHIB: $0.005 and $0.01.

At $0.005, the market cap of SHIB would soar to roughly $3 trillion, and at $0.01, it would surpass $6 trillion. At these levels, Shiba Inu would surpass Bitcoin’s current market cap.

However, this would only happen if SHIB experienced a 36,882% or 73,864% surge while BTC remained at its current position, which is highly unrealistic. For example, if Bitcoin saw a modest 300% price increase from its current level, its market cap would exceed $7 trillion.

Conclusion

Essentially, Shiba Inu can comfortably hit $0.001 without overtaking Bitcoin, as its projected market cap at that price would still be far behind Bitcoin’s.

However, if SHIB reached $0.005 or $0.01, its market cap would enter the trillion-dollar range and potentially rival Bitcoin, especially if BTC does not see comparable price growth.

Here’s What Happens if XRP Doubles in Price From Here

XRP could shatter multiple records in the crypto space should its price double from its current position.

XRP posted a commendable price movement on Monday, approaching $2.70 for the first time since February. Specifically, XRP soared by approximately 13% from an intraday low of $2.3515 to touch $2.6549 yesterday.

When considering XRP’s low of $1.61 just a month ago, reaching the $2.6549 level marks a comeback of approximately 65%. Notably, the impressive one-day movement on Monday followed the news of a U.S.-China tariff breakthrough.

Amid the surge, XRP briefly reclaimed the position of the third-largest crypto asset from Tether’s USDT, with a market cap reaching $152 billion. However, a brief correction ensued, and XRP lost the position. Meanwhile, XRP is recovering swiftly, surging 4% today and trading at $2.50 at press time.

With the ongoing XRP bull run, market commentators are highlighting how the coin could set new records should its price double.

XRP to Break Multiple Records with Doubling Price

In a tweet, widely followed YouTuber “The Modern Investor” pointed out that XRP could become the second-largest crypto again should its price double. At the time of the post, XRP was trading at $2.60, already above USDT, standing behind Ethereum, which was trading with a $300 billion market cap.

Indeed, if XRP posts a 100% surge from that point, with Ethereum remaining relatively stable, the asset could make history again and become the biggest altcoin, trailing only Bitcoin after dethroning Ethereum.

Notably, XRP doubling from here would mark a new all-time high, as it would be trading at $5.20. Interestingly, the last time XRP traded at an all-time high, around seven and a half years ago, it was the second-largest crypto, with Ethereum in third position. At the $5.20 price, XRP’s market cap would sit at $304 billion, slightly edging out Ethereum.

Industry Forecast for XRP-Ethereum Flip

Many industry commentators have forecasted XRP’s flip of Ethereum this season. Confidence in this projection grew significantly since late last year, as XRP’s price expanded almost sixfold, while Ethereum mostly remained at the same level. This led some commentators like Edoardo Farina to issue a bold timeline that XRP could overtake Ethereum in 90 days.

Moreover, considering the surge in interest from institutional asset managers—over ten of them seeking XRP ETFs—confidence in XRP’s performance over ETH has only further heightened.

According to attorney John Deaton, XRP has more appeal to Wall Street than they are willing to admit. He believes XRP will flip Ethereum by end of this year.

Interestingly, in a report, WisdomTree, a $100 billion asset manager, highlighted XRP as a suitable companion to Bitcoin for investment strategies.

Meanwhile, some analysts have argued that XRP could even rival Ethereum and Solana in their flagship DeFi space.

Skepticism Remains

Meanwhile, not everyone shares optimism about XRP. In response to The Modern Investor’s post projecting XRP’s flip of Ethereum through doubling its price, some commenters doubted it. According to them, it would remain a matter of “ifs” and “whens,” rather than a reality.

On the other hand, optimists like X user Cedric Beau countered that the more XRP’s price expands, the more painful it will be for those who dismissed its potential.

Dogecoin Analysis: Will DOGE Retest $0.20 After 4% Pullback?

Dogecoin drops 4% to $0.2222 as Bitcoin retraces. Will DOGE revisit the $0.20 level amid a Double Top breakdown?

As Bitcoin pulls back toward the $102,000 mark, meme coins are experiencing a sharp correction. Dogecoin has dropped nearly 4% today.

Currently trading at $0.2222, Dogecoin marks its third consecutive red day following a 35% rally last week. Will this short-term pullback push DOGE to retest the $0.20 psychological level?

Dogecoin Price Analysis Signals $0.20 Retest in Short-term

After a significant surge to the $0.25 psychological resistance, Dogecoin entered a sideways phase. However, the loss of momentum during consolidation has led to the formation of a bearish Double Top pattern.

Dogecoin price chart
Dogecoin price chart

The neckline of the pattern, located at $0.2225, previously acted as a support and triggered a bounce on May 11. However, with the recent intraday decline, DOGE has now confirmed a breakdown below the neckline with a decisive four-hour close at $0.2185.

A minor recovery of 1.56% appears to be retesting the breakdown point. Based on the Double Top pattern, a further decline could test the $0.20 psychological support level. This also raises the risk of a breakdown below the 50-EMA, which currently sits at $0.2091.

Additionally, the four-hour RSI has dropped from the overbought region to the midline during the consolidation and breakdown phase. This indicates fading momentum, increasing the likelihood of a deeper correction.

If buyers fail to hold the $0.20 support, DOGE may decline further to test the 200-EMA near the $0.18 psychological level. On the other hand, a decisive four-hour close above $0.2225 would invalidate the bearish pattern and could propel DOGE toward the $0.2506 level, increasing the likelihood of a breakout.

Downfall in DOGE Fuels Long Liquidations

Amid the broader market retracement, Coinglass data shows long liquidations have exceeded $500 million in the past 24 hours. Dogecoin alone has seen a spike in long liquidations, totaling $3.38 million in the last four hours and $21.72 million over the past 24 hours.

This increase in long liquidations signals short-term bearish dominance in the derivatives market.

Analysts Predict Extended Rally for Dogecoin

In a recent tweet, crypto analyst Ali Martinez highlighted Dogecoin’s bullish momentum as it approaches a critical resistance zone, ranging from $0.2490 to $0.27. This area previously acted as resistance during the February correction phase.

A breakout above this range could drive DOGE toward previous highs near $0.48. However, failure to break out may result in a pullback toward $0.20 or even $0.1550.

Despite short-term volatility, crypto analyst Jonathan Carter remains optimistic on Dogecoin. He points to a descending channel breakout on the 3-day chart, which has been forming since November 2024.

As this breakout rally gains traction, Carter projects a price target of $0.4450, with intermediate resistances at $0.287 and $0.34.

Shiba Inu Drops 10%: Will $0.000015 Support Hold?

Shiba Inu has dropped 10% as bulls struggle to defend the $0.000015 support. Will a retest of $0.00001365 follow, or will long positions trigger a rebound?

As meme coins lose bullish momentum, Shiba Inu has seen a significant 10% correction over the past three days. Currently, the SHIB token is trading at $0.00001525, with an intraday decline of 3.36%.

Following the pullback, Shiba Inu now risks losing the key demand zone at $0.000015. Could this lead to a sharper drop toward the $0.00001365 level?

Shiba Inu Price Analysis

On the daily chart, Shiba Inu’s price trend showcased a bullish rally of nearly 35% last week. However, the uptrend fails to hold above the 200 EMA line and a 23.60% Fibonacci level at $0.000016.

Shiba Inu price chart

With a pullback of nearly 10% over the past three days, Shiba Inu now makes its third consecutive negative candle and trades at a market price of $0.00001518. With a 24-hour low at $0.00001479, the lower price direction in the daily candle reflects the bullish struggle to hold above the demand zone.

Furthermore, it highlights the retest of the recently broken inverted head-and-shoulder patterns. Amid the retest, the daily RSI line has dropped from the overbought region to the 14-day SMA at near 57.36. As the momentum declines, the possibility of a post-retest turnaround increases.

Considering the bulls’ regained momentum, the pattern breakout could target the 78.60% Fibonacci level at the psychological level of $0.000025. On the flip side, a bullish failure to hold above the demand zone will likely test the 50 EMA at $0.00001365. The next crucial support under the 50 EMA is the psychological support of $0.000010.

Derivative Traders Grab SHIB at Lower Prices

As the bearish influence grows over the Shiba Inu price chart, the derivatives market witnesses increased volatility. Based on Coinglass data, the funding rate has flipped negative to -0.0016%, with the open interest down by 5.21% at $245.55 million.

SHIB OI-Weighted Funding Rate

Furthermore, the 24-hour liquidations erased $1.66 million worth of bullish positions. Despite the short-term bearish dominance, the long positions are building up, as per Coinglass’s long-to-short ratio chart.

Over the past four hours, the long positions now account for 56.54%, pumping the long-to-short ratio to 1.30%. This highlights the derivative traders capturing the recent bottom and anticipating a potential turnaround in Shiba Inu.

Shiba Inu Burn Rate Spikes 6,519%, Hints at Bullish Rebound

Despite the ongoing price pullback, Shiba Inu’s burn metrics signal a potential bullish reversal. According to data from ShibBurn, the SHIB token burn rate surged by a staggering 6,519% in the last 24 hours, with over 28.29 million SHIB tokens removed from circulation.

This sudden spike in the burn rate may support a short-term price bounce, as the reduced supply strengthens bullish sentiment around Shiba Inu.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins Lays Out New Crypto Oversight Plan

0

New U.S. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has outlined a strategic vision for reshaping regulatory oversight of crypto assets and on-chain securities.

This development came in a keynote speech delivered at the Tokenization Roundtable on Monday. As digital ledgers increasingly replace traditional off-chain systems, the SEC is prioritizing three core areas: crypto issuance, asset custody, and trading infrastructure.

Atkins emphasized the importance of evolving the Commission’s regulatory approach to support innovation while maintaining investor protections. He highlighted the need to build a regulatory framework matching blockchain-based financial products’ decentralized nature.

Notably, this latest summit marked Paul Atkins’ second appearance at a crypto roundtable since taking over leadership at the SEC. In his speech, Atkins also criticized prior regulatory approaches that prioritized enforcement actions over formal rulemaking. He emphasized returning to Congressional intent in securities law enforcement.

Issuance Guidelines Under Review

Atkins noted that regulatory clarity around crypto asset issuance remains insufficient. The SEC has so far only seen four issuers conduct registered offerings or use Regulation A to distribute crypto assets. According to Atkins, this is largely due to regulatory uncertainty and disclosure requirements that are poorly aligned with decentralized technologies.

For instance, forms like S-1 still require traditional disclosures such as executive compensation, which may not apply to many crypto projects.

To address these challenges, the Commission has begun issuing staff guidance to clarify its current view that certain distributions and assets may not implicate federal securities laws. However, Atkins confirmed that more formal Commission action is necessary.

Staff have been tasked with evaluating whether additional exemptions or adjustments to registration requirements are needed to support new issuance models.

SEC to Expand Custodial Options for Crypto Assets

Turning to custody, Atkins detailed plans to enhance flexibility for registrants managing crypto assets. He noted that the recent rescission of Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121 removed a significant barrier to crypto custodial services. Atkins criticized the bulletin’s broad impact and lack of public input, saying it created confusion across the market.

In addition, the SEC is assessing how to define “qualified custodian” under existing laws. The aim is to clarify eligibility and potentially allow for secure self-custodial solutions using advanced technologies.

Atkins also signaled that the Commission may revise or replace the current “special purpose broker-dealer” framework. With only two such broker-dealers active today, he indicated that the limitations placed on them have deterred broader participation.

Integrated Trading Platforms

Finally, Atkins addressed crypto asset trading, supporting broader product access across trading platforms. He noted that current rules do not prohibit registered broker-dealers from facilitating trades involving securities and non-securities.

To solve this issue, the SEC is reviewing the Alternative Trading System (ATS) framework to improve its compatibility with crypto markets. Staff have been directed to consider guidance or new rulemaking to enable the listing and trading of crypto assets on national securities exchanges.

Atkins also expressed interest in exploring conditional exemptive relief to firms bringing blockchain-enabled products to market, provided these efforts conflict with legacy rules.

Coinbase Becomes First Crypto Company to Join S&P 500

0

Coinbase makes history as it prepares to become the first crypto company to have its stock, COIN, included in the S&P 500 stock index.

According to a press release, Coinbase will join the S&P 500 stock index starting May 19, 2025. The move comes after S&P Global announced plans to remove Discover Financial Services (DFS) from the index following its acquisition by Capital One Financial Corp. Capital One’s stock, COH, is also part of the S&P 500.

Following the move, Coinbase will replace DFS in the S&P 500 index beginning Monday, May 19, 2025.

S&P 500 Weightings

The index tracks the performance of stocks of the 500 largest publicly traded U.S. companies by market capitalization.

The index features stocks of top companies such as Amazon, Apple, AT&T, BNY Mellon, Citigroup, Microsoft, Nvidia, and eBay. As of March 31, 2025, the index’s aggregated market cap was $49.8 trillion.

Since it is a market-cap-weighted index, bigger firms like Microsoft and Apple carry more weight, which could be in double digits. However, those at the bottom, like Coinbase, have less than 1% weightings.

Nonetheless, making it to the S&P 500 is a significant milestone, irrespective of the company’s weighting. Coinbase’s inclusion is expected to have an immediate market impact on COIN. Notably, ETFs and index funds tracking the S&P 500 would be indirectly purchasing Coinbase’s shares.

At press time, COIN was trading at $207.22, up nearly 8%. Its market cap was $52.78 billion in the hours leading up to press time.

Coinbase Celebrates COIN Inclusion in S&P 500 Index

Meanwhile, Coinbase took to X to celebrate the remarkable feat using the popular quote, “First they ignore you, then mock you, fight you, then you win.”

Interestingly, the exchange updated the quote to disclose its inclusion in the S&P 500, saying, “Then they add you to the S&P 500.”

Coinbase expressed gratitude to the broader crypto community for helping it become a part of the S&P 500, marking the first time a crypto company would join the index.

Strategy Chairman Congratulates Coinbase

Other crypto proponents, like Strategy’s executive chairman Michael Saylor, congratulated Coinbase on its inclusion in the S&P 500 index. The chairman of the Bitcoin-stacking company referred to COIN’s inclusion in the index as a major milestone for BTC and the exchange.

Recall that Strategy’s share, MSTR, was considered a major candidate for the S&P 500 index last year. However, Strategy did not meet some of the index’s criteria.

A crucial criterion requires potential constituents to have been profitable in the previous calendar year and the most recently concluded quarter. In May, Strategy announced a net loss of $4.2 billion in Q1 2025, failing to satisfy a major criterion for inclusion in the index.

SUI Price Risks $3.13 Pullback Amid Rising Wedge Breakdown

SUI drops 5% to $3.84 as a rising wedge pattern forms. Will it break down to $3.13 or rally to $5.40 following Phantom Wallet’s integration of the SUI token?

As Bitcoin’s rally loses momentum, altcoins like SUI are experiencing a pullback. SUI is down nearly 5% in the past 24 hours. Currently, SUI is trading at $3.84, with a market capitalization of $13 billion.

SUI’s price is fluctuating near the psychological $4 mark, showing a bullish struggle to stay above this key level. However, technical indicators warn of a possible minor pullback toward $3.13. Should you consider holding SUI under these conditions?

SUI Price Analysis Warns Wedge Breakdown

The price of SUI has surged 85%, from a low of $2.10 on April 20 to its current price of $3.99. This bullish trend has established a crucial support trendline.

SUI Price Chart
SUI Price Chart

However, the ongoing struggle to form higher highs has created a resistance trendline. Together, these converging lines form a rising wedge pattern on the 4-hour chart.

At present, SUI is finding support at the 50-EMA and the $3.81 level, which lies near the wedge’s lower boundary. With a 2.36% surge in the past hour, SUI is attempting to rebound and challenge the overhead resistance trendline.

That said, weakening momentum, as highlighted by a falling RSI, raises concerns about a potential bullish failure. Additionally, a bearish divergence in the RSI increases the likelihood of a breakdown.

If SUI fails to stay above the $3.81 support level and breaks below the wedge, the price could drop toward the 200-EMA at $3.22, close to the key support level of $3.13.

Conversely, a bullish breakout above the upper trendline would invalidate the bearish outlook and push SUI toward the $5 mark, an upside potential of nearly 30% from current levels.

Analyst Sees Strong Uptrend for SUI

Despite short-term concerns about a minor pullback, analysts remain optimistic about SUI’s long-term potential. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez anticipates a bullish continuation, targeting the next major resistance at $5.40. He notes that there’s still significant room for growth.

Phantom Wallet Integrates SUI Support

In recent developments, Phantom, a well-known crypto wallet for DeFi and NFTs, has added support for the SUI token. Users can now swap tokens between SUI, BASE, Ethereum, and Solana directly within the Phantom Wallet.

Additionally, Phantom provides access to multiple SUI network DApps and enables users to purchase SUI from within the wallet. This increased accessibility will likely boost demand and support SUI’s ongoing bullish momentum.

Even if XRP Hits $100, It Won’t Change Your Life if You Make This Mistake: DAG Managing Director:

Amid emerging lofty XRP price predictions, Jake Claver, Managing Director at Digital Ascension Group (DAG), recently discussed the importance of exit strategies.

He mentioned this in a post on X. Notably, while XRP enthusiasts continue to speculate about the asset potentially reaching ambitious targets like $100, Claver pointed out an oversight among many in the space, which is a lack of a clear and rational exit plan.

Specifically, several analysts have predicted respectable price goals for XRP. For instance, EGRAG Crypto insists that the asset could reach an ultimate target of $27. Meanwhile, others like Linda Jones believe XRP has the potential to reach $100, but not in the current cycle.

Don’t Make the Mistake of Investing in XRP Without a Clear Exit Strategy

However, according to Claver’s latest commentary, a surge in XRP’s price alone will likely not be life-changing if investors react emotionally.

He stressed that financial freedom doesn’t come from lucky breaks or price spikes. Instead, it comes from preparedness and deliberate decision-making. He urged investors to define their personal thresholds and stick to a strategy. If they don’t, they could fall victim to panic selling or indecision.

This led to a follow-up discussion from some seeking clarity. One market participant asked if this also applies if someone does not wish to sell their XRP holdings.

Claver welcomed this idea of HODLing, indicating that long-term holding can be a valid approach. He called attention to the increasing availability of decentralized financial tools that allow XRP holders to borrow against their assets or earn returns without liquidating.

Another investor asked what happens if one borrows against XRP and its value subsequently plummets by 80%. In response, Claver noted that the impact of such a drop would depend heavily on the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio at the time of borrowing.

Specifically, if an investor borrows conservatively, say at 20% LTV, the decline might have little effect. However, with higher leverage, borrowers might be required to add collateral. Should they fail to do so, they would still have first refusal rights to reclaim their collateralized assets.

A Classic Instance

Claver’s recent comments align with a message he shared back in October 2024, when he discussed an exit strategy by a fellow investor. In that instance, a Solana investor had entered the market during the FTX crash, buying in at a low point while others panicked.

This investor took profits at predetermined price levels, first at $35, then again at $100. Notably, he reinvested the proceeds into real estate properties in Dubai. The remaining tokens were left to appreciate further. Claver praised this approach as a smart way to secure gains while diversifying into stable, income-generating assets.

However, this example is not a one-size-fits-all formula. Essentially, investors should develop personalized exit plans that reflect their financial goals, risk tolerance, and life circumstances.

Whether that means gradually cashing out, leveraging assets for passive income, or holding indefinitely, the important part is to make these decisions before emotions cloud judgment during market volatility. An XRP community analyst also recently presented the importance of a clear exit strategy.

Top US Exchange Kraken Asks: ‘Is Anyone Else Watching XRP Today’

0

Leading crypto trading platforms Kraken and MoonPay call attention to XRP significant gains following the coin’s latest surge to a multi-month high.

XRP has been riding the wave of the latest relief rally in the crypto market, which commenced last week. Interestingly, the coin witnessed a notable price increase yesterday, soaring past the $2.6 mark for the first time since March 7, 2025.

The recent surge came after global travel giant Travala.com added XRP as a payment option. This would allow Travala users to pay for flights, book hotels, and other travel products using XRP.

Following XRP’s recent surge, it briefly flipped Tether (USDT) to become the third-biggest cryptocurrency by market cap. Despite reaching a multi-month high of $2.63 yesterday, XRP dipped slightly to the $2.5 territory and dropped to the fourth position in the global crypto ranking.

Kraken and MoonPay Highlight XRP Rally

Meanwhile, amid the XRP comeback, leading crypto trading platforms Kraken and MoonPay called investors’ attention to XRP’s uptrend.

In a tweet, Kraken greeted its followers in a friendly morning greeting and asked if they were monitoring XRP’s price movements. The exchange attached a screenshot to the post, showing that XRP had registered an intraday high of 10.09% to $2.58.

MoonPay also highlighted XRP’s gains over the past year in a separate X post. The accompanying screenshot indicated that XRP’s price had increased by 403.46% over the past year.

Notably, it specifically asked XRP community members for their collective view on where the coin’s price could be headed next.

Meanwhile, the Kraken and MoonPay tweets elicited reactions from crypto enthusiasts, including exchanges.

Is XRP Gearing Up for a New ATH?

Specifically, Gemini crypto exchange confirmed that it was also watching XRP’s latest move in response to Kraken’s post. In response, Kraken asked whether XRP is gearing up for an imminent all-time high (ATH).

Several market commentators believe XRP is on the verge of registering a new ATH this bull cycle. Many thought XRP would achieve the milestone in January when it soared to around $3.34 on January 20. It bears mentioning that this date coincided with the day Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 47th U.S. President.

While many expected XRP to continue its rally and surpass its previous ATH of $3.84, it slumped heavily in subsequent months, reaching a low of around $1.6. However, XRP has risen from the dust to continue its rally, with many experts like Michaël van de Poppe predicting it could soon “attack” its previous ATH and eventually set a new record.

In the meantime, XRP is currently trading at $2.50 per coin, with a daily increase of 3.24%. To register a new ATH, XRP’s price must soar by at least 54% from its current level to $3.85.

$100B Asset Manager Names XRP the Only Altcoin Fit to Complement a Bitcoin Strategy

WisdomTree, a $100 billion asset management firm, released a report that singles out XRP as an altcoin suitable for a long-term portfolio strategy alongside Bitcoin.

XRP community researcher “SMQKE” highlighted this report in a recent tweet. The report positions XRP not as a speculative asset but as a functional complement to Bitcoin within a diversified crypto allocation.

The firm’s research notes that institutional investors are no longer content with exposure to a single mega-cap cryptocurrency. With Bitcoin dominating ETF headlines and media coverage, WisdomTree’s taxonomy identifies XRP as a fitting companion based on its utility, performance, and classification as a Layer-1 payments asset.

Layer-1 Payments Classification Sets XRP Apart

In its digital asset categorization, WisdomTree divides crypto assets into key sectors such as Layer-1 payments, Layer-1 smart contract platforms, DeFi, stablecoins, and NFTs.

The firm uniquely classifies both Bitcoin and XRP under Layer-1 payments, due to their primary function as digital payment instruments.

This distinction positions XRP as the altcoin counterpart to Bitcoin in the payments category, similar to how Solana parallels Ethereum in the smart contract segment.

WisdomTree names XRP a Bitcoin investment alternative

Why XRP?

Notably, XRP’s design as a fast and scalable payment solution is part of the reason behind WisdomTree’s perspective. Transactions on the XRP Ledger settle in 3–5 seconds. Moreover, XRP utilizes a Proof-of-Association consensus model that consumes significantly less energy than Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work.

Additionally, XRP’s historically low correlation with Bitcoin and Ethereum strengthens its case for diversification. While Bitcoin and Ethereum often move in tandem, XRP’s performance tends to follow a more independent trajectory, a trait WisdomTree considers valuable for risk management.

XRP correlation to Bitcoin and Ethereum
XRP correlation to Bitcoin and Ethereum

Scarcity Dynamics and Institutional Readiness

The report also highlights XRP’s controlled supply. It has a fixed cap of 100 billion tokens, gradually released through Ripple’s escrow system. Ripple returns unused tokens to escrow each month. As of now, XRP’s circulating supply stands at 58.55 billion tokens.

WisdomTree also notes that XRP operates under a long-term deflationary model, where network transaction fees are burned.

With most XRP either distributed or locked and its total supply nearing full circulation, investors see parallels with Bitcoin’s scarcity-driven value proposition. This makes XRP not only functional for payments but also a scarce digital asset with long-term investment appeal, according to the firm.

Smart Money Quietly Positions Into XRP

XRP proponents interpret WisdomTree’s report as evidence that sophisticated investors are quietly accumulating XRP as a strategic counterpart. They argue that smart money is positioning XRP alongside Bitcoin in institutional portfolios that seek a balance between store-of-value and real-world utility.

Interestingly, the U.S. government also mentioned XRP as one of the assets to consider for its strategic crypto stockpile, which it created alongside the much-requested Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. However, the government noted it has no plans to buy any XRP.

Ultimately, as the only altcoin officially recognized alongside Bitcoin in WisdomTree’s framework, XRP’s institutional credibility has received a major boost. Notably, WisdomTree is pursuing an ETF that would invest directly in XRP, offering traditional and institutional investors regulated exposure to the asset.
