Interest Rate Hints Ahead? Bitcoin Could Benefit as Fed Schedules Closed-Door Meeting Today

0

The Bitcoin and crypto market could receive a boost in confidence following the Federal Reserve’s close-door meeting today.

For context, the U.S. Federal Reserve is holding a closed-door meeting today, April 7, 2025, to review the discount rates charged by Federal Reserve Banks. Though the meeting was scheduled in advance and is not a direct response to the recent financial market turmoil, investors have now taken an interest.

Federal Reserve Meeting Amid Bitcoin and Market Downturn

It is important to note that the Federal Reserve is not expected to decide on interest rate cuts within this meeting. However, the reason behind investor interest is that the outcome of this meeting could hint at how the Fed might approach interest rates at the next Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled for May 6 to 7, 2025.

With the financial markets rattled by President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff announcement, Bitcoin and the broader crypto market have entered a steep downtrend. The sudden imposition of tariffs, seen by analysts as a protectionist shock to the global economy, has led to a flight from risk assets.

Major U.S. indices have reacted sharply, with the Dow Jones falling nearly 4,000 points over two days and the S&P 500 sliding into bear market territory. The tech-heavy Nasdaq has recorded a near 19% drop year-to-date.

Bitcoin has not escaped. At the time of writing, it trades around $78,016, down over 5.35% in the past 24 hours, with intraday lows near $74,500. Ethereum is seeing even steeper losses, falling more than 10% to around $1,548. The altcoin market mirrors the sentiment, with tokens like XRP sliding to five-month lows.

Could The Federal Reserve Effect Interest Rate Cuts Next Month?

However, there may be a change in policy winds that could benefit crypto assets. As The Crypto Basic confirmed today, JPMorgan’s global head of fixed income, Bob Michele, recently discussed this during a Bloomberg interview.

He noted that last week’s twin-day crash on Thursday and Friday was the fourth of its kind in American history, placing it in the same league as the crashes of 1987, 2008, and 2020. In each of those historical precedents, the Federal Reserve stepped in with aggressive interest rate cuts.

Michele believes the current market conditions are far from normal and argues that the Fed may need to act more urgently than it currently signals. While Chair Jerome Powell has been cautious, voices like Michele’s are pushing the narrative that an early rate cut may be necessary.

If the Federal Reserve’s decisions in today’s closed-door session does hint at interest rate cuts next month, this could boost investor confidence, possibly contributing to a recovery from the latest bloodbath.

Binance Founder CZ Becomes Pakistan Strategic Crypto Advisor

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has secured an appointment as a strategic advisor to the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC).

The announcement came during a high-profile meeting with key government officials, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, SECP Chairman, State Bank of Pakistan Governor, and Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

The appointment confirms a bold new direction for Pakistan’s crypto industry. Aurangzeb, the Chairman of PCC, stressed the significance of the move. According to him, it sends a clear message to the world that Pakistan is open to crypto innovation.

With CZ’s guidance, the country aims to accelerate its vision of becoming a regional powerhouse for Web3, blockchain-driven growth, and digital finance.

Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, also echoed this optimism. Saqib stated that CZ’s leadership will help guide Pakistan on its journey to becoming a hub for crypto and digital finance.

CZ as Strategic Advisor

In his new role, CZ will provide guidance in several key areas, including education, infrastructure, regulation, and adoption. His expertise will help shape a compliant and inclusive crypto ecosystem in Pakistan that fosters innovation and aligns with global best practices.

As part of his advisory role, CZ will collaborate closely with the Government of Pakistan and private sector players to build a robust crypto ecosystem. This initiative will foster the development of a regulatory framework that supports blockchain innovation.

During his announcement, Zhao highlighted Pakistan’s immense potential. He noted that the country is a particularly promising market with a population of 240 million people, especially with over 60% of its population under the age of 30. “The potential here is limitless,” he remarked.

CZ’s Expanding Influence in Crypto

This appointment comes a week after CZ signed an agreement with the Kyrgyz Republic’s National Investment Agency. This contract promotes blockchain growth in Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing regulatory consulting, infrastructure development, and education.

Will Bitcoin Comeback as Open Interest Recovers to $34B?

0

Here is why Bitcoin could see a slight recovery as open interest recovers despite recent price declines.

In the past 12 hours, panic selling triggered by growing economic fears surrounding President Trump’s controversial tariffs has sharply impacted Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoins.

As the market reacts to these developments, Bitcoin’s market cap has dropped to $1.5 trillion, despite a slight recovery in its price to $77,000. Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s dominance in the market has surged to 60.7%, leaving altcoins facing more severe losses.

BTC Futures Market Experiences Declining Interest

The futures market has also felt the strain of Bitcoin’s price fluctuations. Data from Glassnode reveals that BTC futures open interest currently sits at $34.5 billion. While the metric saw a brief recovery from a low of $33.8 billion on April 3, the overall downtrend persists. Traders have continued unwinding their futures exposure as a response to the decreasing momentum in Bitcoin’s price.

Since March 25, both cash- and crypto-margined open interest (OI) have shown significant drops. Cash-margined OI fell from $30.3 billion to $27.4 billion, while crypto-margined OI dropped from $7.5 billion to $6.9 billion. However, crypto-margined OI has started to increase, indicating renewed risk-taking by some speculative traders.

Meanwhile, the share of crypto-collateralized futures contracts in total OI has been rising. Currently, crypto-margined futures contracts make up 20.5% of total OI, up from 18.9% on April 5. This growing share could potentially increase the market’s sensitivity to price swings and amplify volatility, as more speculative positions become reflexive.

Liquidations Show Limited Leverage

Further, in the past 24 hours, Bitcoin futures liquidations have amounted to $58.8 million, with longs taking a more significant hit of $42.1 million compared to $16.6 million for shorts.

Bitcoin Whales Glassnode

Despite a 10% drop in Bitcoin’s price, this liquidation size is relatively modest. The data suggests that the market was not heavily leveraged on the long side, which helped prevent a cascade of liquidations.

Long liquidations accounted for approximately 73% of total futures liquidations, signaling a mild bullish positioning within the market.

Compared to earlier peaks in February and March, where daily liquidations exceeded $140 million, the current liquidations appear less intense. This indicates that the price decline has been orderly, largely driven by spot selling and de-risking rather than over-leveraged long positions being liquidated.

Institutional Demand Shows Modest Growth

Separately, data also highlights an increase in institutional demand for Bitcoin. Over the past two months, 76 new entities, each holding over 1,000 BTC, have entered the network.

This surge represents a 4.6% increase in the number of large Bitcoin holders, suggesting that institutional interest in the asset is rising. If these new entities decide to accumulate more Bitcoin, it could further increase demand and potentially support a price recovery.

Unmarked Wallet Moves 200M XRP and 300M DOGE to Binance, but There’s a Catch

0

Two notable transactions, in which an unmarked address moved staggering amounts of XRP and Dogecoin to Binance, have caught the market’s attention.

The Monday transaction coincides with the cryptocurrency market downturn. For context, XRP and Dogecoin have corrected 13% each amid Bitcoin’s quick-fire capsize to $76,000 earlier in the day.

However, on-chain tracker Whale Alert identified the hefty transaction in an X post on Monday, involving an unidentified address and leading crypto exchange Binance. The shift raised sentiments that a whale had taken to selling his bags amid the bearish market trend.

Transaction Details

The on-chain whale tracker reported that the address “DU8gPC,” mentioned as an unknown wallet, transferred a staggering 300 million DOGE to Binance. The wallet moved the $41.7 million worth of Dogecoin today at 9:52 (UTC).

Two seconds later, another unidentified wallet, “rPz2qA,” moved 200 million XRP, worth $354.6 million, to another Binance wallet. While these transactions were parallel and came from unrelated addresses, their timing raised curiosity among market participants.

Meanwhile, further analysis shows that the receiving addresses indeed belonged to Binance, the largest cryptocurrency by trading volume. However, the two sending addresses are affiliated with a prominent entity.

Here’s What Really Happened

Running the Dogecoin sending address through the market analytical platform Arkham showed that the wallet still belonged to Binance. The “DU8gPC” address was one of the prominent exchange’s DOGE cold wallets, while the receiving address was its hot wallet.

Furthermore, data from Bithomp also confirmed that the XRP sending address also has an affiliation with Binance. A wallet tied to the exchange activated the address in December 2023 with 70 XRP and has stored huge amounts of the asset in the cold self-custody wallet since then.

As a result, both Dogecoin and XRP transactions were internal movements from Binance, specifically from its cold to hot wallet. In the case of massive deposit or withdrawal activities, exchanges usually make transfers in this direction to boost liquidity on the platform.

Meanwhile, Binance has made similar in-house movements in the past. The Crypto Basic reported on one that happened in September between two Binance-owned wallets, involving a 95 million XRP ($50 million) shuffle.

Another such shift occurred in August when Binance moved 60 million XRP from the sending address from today. Interestingly, the exchange also transferred the $39 million worth of XRP to the same receiving address in today’s transaction.

In the meantime, XRP trades at $1.85 and DOGE at $0.1452.

Shiba Inu Team: Focus on Upcoming Upgrades, Ignore the FUD

0

“Let’s stay focused on the exciting upgrades ahead, as there’s so much happening in the Shiba Inu ecosystem.”

This was the key message from Lucie, the marketing specialist of the Shiba Inu team, as she shared an update with the community, highlighting the project’s ongoing progress. This follows increased negativity in the community amid ongoing market turmoil.

However, with significant advancements on the horizon, the team is concentrating on the upcoming upgrades to Shibarium and ShibOS, which will shape the future of the Shiba Inu project.

Lucie emphasized the importance of staying positive and focused on progress, urging everyone to ignore negativity. She reminded the community that hard work drives the development of both Shibarium and ShibOS and encouraged continued momentum.

Lucie expressed confidence that Shibarium would become a top-tier platform and that ShibOS has the potential to be adopted globally in the future.

Shibarium and ShibOS

Notably, Shiba Inu’s Shibarium blockchain continues to be a central focus for the project. As a Layer-2 blockchain, Shibarium offers faster, more scalable, and more affordable transactions, making it an essential component for the ecosystem’s growth. At the same time, ShibOS, a blockchain operating system, is progressing steadily.

This OS will power decentralized applications (dApps), enhance privacy, and enable features like identity management and artificial intelligence (AI).

These developments are critical to expanding Shiba Inu’s utility beyond basic token transactions, positioning it as a versatile tool in the blockchain sector. The steady evolution of ShibOS is particularly notable as it could lay the foundation for various dApps and services.

As the team pushes forward with these innovations, it becomes clear that Shiba Inu’s goal is not just to be a meme token but a substantial force in the blockchain ecosystem, ready to contribute to the broader decentralized space.

UAE Partnership: A Strategic Move for Shiba Inu

Shiba Inu’s partnership with the UAE government represents another significant milestone. The UAE’s Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure (MoEI) is integrating ShibOS into its operations, marking the first federal-level blockchain adoption in the region.

The UAE, known for its high rate of crypto ownership, presents an ideal environment for Shiba Inu’s technology to flourish.

This collaboration extends beyond technical integration. Specifically, it strengthens Shiba Inu’s credibility and offers a real-world application of its blockchain infrastructure. ShibOS could be key in the UAE’s smart cities, green infrastructure projects, and digital governance.

Here’s How Much Your $100 or $1,000 Investment in Shiba Inu on Its First Day Would Be Worth Today

Shiba Inu started from humble beginnings, growing from a few hundred dollars in valuation to a multi-billion-dollar crypto asset.

At one point, it even ranked among the top ten most valuable crypto assets in the world. However, while Shiba Inu has lost some of its glory amid the recent market downturn, it continues to preserve a significant portion of the gains accrued since its inception.

The Crypto Basic recently explored the potential worth today of a $100 and $1,000 investment in Shiba Inu bought at its launch.

Buying Shiba Inu at Launch

Notably, Shiba Inu entered the crypto scene in August 2020 during the global pandemic. According to CoinMarketCap data, Shiba Inu opened for trading on August 2, 2020, at $0.000000001009, with nine zeros.

At this inaugural price, $100 could buy 99.11 billion SHIB tokens. For context, as of today, a $100 investment would buy only 9.32 million SHIB tokens.

Likewise, a $1,000 investment at launch could buy 991.1 billion SHIB tokens. This translates to 93.28 million SHIB tokens today.

Notably, Shiba Inu’s price soared by 8,766,005% from this low starting point to $0.00008845 just a year after launch. This implies that at its peak, those who bought $100 Shiba Inu at the start made around $8.77 million. As for those with a higher investment of $1,000, they made over $87 million.

Indeed, there have been numerous testimonies of financial success from Shiba Inu, though most are regrets of missed fortune after having the rare opportunity to invest in SHIB much earlier.

For instance, a Dubai-based early Shiba Inu investor disclosed investing $4,000 in Shiba Inu around its launch but hurriedly liquidated the holdings during brief market fluctuations. He noted that had he held onto the investment, it would have earned him $70 million.

What Would It Be Worth Today?

Meanwhile, after Shiba Inu canceled five zeros to trade at a peak of $0.00008845, it has since dipped back to lows around $0.000006. However, Shiba Inu is trading at $0.00001081 at press time, marking an 88% dip from its all-time high value.

Yet, at this value, the earliest Shiba Inu investors are still in profit. In particular, at the present price, a $100 investment from five years ago would still be worth $1,071,357. Likewise, a $1,000 investment in SHIB since August 2020 would be worth $10.71 million today, despite the fact that Shiba Inu is trading at 88% below its peak.

This highlights the massive profit that the earliest Shiba Inu investors still enjoy despite the ongoing market downturn. In fact, data from IntoTheBlock shows that 18% of SHIB holders are still profitable at present levels. Meanwhile, a massive 69% are nursing losses, while 13% are at break-even.

Cardano Struggles at $0.5 as Bears Threaten Nosedive to $0.3

Cardano is struggling to maintain the $0.50 mark as bearish pressure mounts, with the potential for a drop to $0.32.

As Bitcoin momentarily dips below the $75,000 mark, Cardano reaches a 24-hour low of $0.51. The ADA token is currently trading at $0.5482, recording an intraday pullback of 4.38% at press time.

The bearish trend in Cardano is testing a long-standing support trendline, raising concerns of a potential breakdown. Will this lead to a nosedive to the $0.32 mark?

Cardano Price Analysis

Cardano’s price trend on the daily chart reveals a breakdown from a consolidation range. The falling prices are approaching the long-established support trendline.

Following a 12.41% decline on Sunday, Cardano’s bearish trend persists. The ADA price momentarily dipped below the 23.60% Fibonacci level at $0.5346.

Cardano Price Chart

Cardano Price ChartDespite the recent surge in selling pressure, Cardano is holding above the $0.50 psychological level as buyers maintain support at this key Fibonacci level. As Cardano witnesses lower price action near the support trendline, price action analysis suggests the possibility of a bullish reversal.

This is based on previous bullish turnarounds in Cardano’s price trend since late 2024. However, due to the ongoing downtrend, the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages are on the verge of triggering a death cross event, which would mark a sell signal for price action traders.

Additionally, the True Strength Index (TSI) is at -0.91, indicating a strong bearish trend. This increases the likelihood of a breakdown below the 23.60% Fibonacci level or a minor consolidation around the crucial $0.50 support.

ADA Price Targets

Based on the Fibonacci levels, a quick turnaround with a long-tailed candle from the 23.60% level suggests the possibility of a bullish recovery in Cardano. This short-term recovery could lead to a retest of the 38.20% level at $0.6673, representing an upside potential of nearly 20%.

On the other hand, a daily close below the 23.60% level at $0.5346 would increase the risk of a breakdown below the support trendline. This could expose Cardano to a downside risk of up to 40%, with the $0.32 support level becoming a likely target.

Twitter Co-founder Dorsey Says Bitcoin May Fade if Not Used Beyond Store of Value

0

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Block and founder of Twitter, argues that Bitcoin risks becoming obsolete if its role remains limited to being a digital store of value.

Speaking during an appearance at the Presidio Bitcoin event, he emphasized that survival depends on Bitcoin evolving into a widely adopted medium of exchange.

According to Dorsey, if Bitcoin continues to serve primarily as a long-term investment tool, it may fail to sustain its relevance in the broader economy.

Caution on Over-Reliance on Store of Value Narrative

During his remarks, Dorsey noted that treating Bitcoin solely as a reserve asset may hinder its long-term potential. He argued that the tendency to “hodl,” or hold Bitcoin for value appreciation during economic uncertainty, limits the currency’s role in everyday life.

In his view, this narrow use case could eventually push Bitcoin to the margins of financial systems. To illustrate a different trajectory, Dorsey pointed to practical, grassroots-level usage emerging in regions often underserved by traditional finance.

In parts of Africa, Central America, and South America, communities are reportedly integrating Bitcoin into routine transactions. Individuals in these regions are using Bitcoin for everyday needs such as paying for meals, coffee, and services.

Dorsey noted that many of these users focus on Bitcoin’s functionality as money rather than its market value, signaling what he believes could be a critical use case.

Push for Broader Network Innovation

Dorsey also challenged the Bitcoin community to pursue innovation beyond existing second-layer solutions. Referring specifically to the Lightning Network, he argued that relying on a single method to scale transactions may limit growth.

Instead, he called for expanded experimentation with alternative solutions that could bolster speed and privacy while simplifying the payment experience.

He stated that the Bitcoin ecosystem has not yet realized the original vision of peer-to-peer electronic cash. According to him, achieving that goal would require building more accessible tools that can compete with conventional payment networks like Visa and Mastercard. He urged developers to create systems that prioritize real-world use, especially in commerce.

Derivatives Market Reacts to Sharp Bitcoin Price Drop

This news comes at a time when the market responded sharply to Bitcoin’s recent price downturn. Notably, Bitcoin has plummeted by 8.10% in the last 24 hours and 6.73% in the past 7 days.  According to recent data, derivatives trading volume rose by 183.58%, reaching $183.10 billion.

Options trading activity also surged, with volume climbing 327.28% to $5.11 billion. This increased market volatility has triggered widespread liquidations, with total losses reaching $467.60 million over the past 24 hours.

JPMorgan Says the Federal Reserve Might Cut Rates Sizably Before the Next FOMC Meeting: Here’s Possible Impact on Bitcoin’s Price

0

The possibility of a sooner-than-expected interest rate cut in the United States has escalated, with assets like Bitcoin as potential beneficiaries.

The global market has been crashing extensively since President Donald Trump’s April 3 reciprocal tariff announcement. It started with the US stocks recording their worst two-day performance since the 2020 COVID-19 plummet.

Meanwhile, at the start of the Asian market on Monday, China’s stock market crashed by over 5%, its largest single-day outflow since 2008. British and German markets also receded massively, as uncertainties resonated around the global market.

While investors quiver, there might be a silver lining, especially for the American market. JPMorgan’s global head of fixed income, Bob Michele, has suggested a possible early interest rate cut from the US Federal Reserve System (Fed).

The Fed Will Cut Rate Despite Chair’s Tough Talk: JPMorgan

Speaking at a Bloomberg appearance, Michele noted that it does not seem like business as usual in the US stock market, a view Fed Chair Jerome Powell seems unwilling to accept. The JPMorgan executive highlighted that last week’s Thursday and Friday crashes have happened only four times in America’s history.

The first three occasions were the 1987 stock market crash, the 2008 global financial crisis, and the 2020 lockdown. Interestingly, he stated that the US central bank immediately stepped in and slashed funding rates in all three events.

As a result, Michele expects the Fed to take a similar approach following last week’s steep market decline. The expert suggested that against Powell’s tough talk on Friday, the central bank may not last until its next FOMC meeting in May before it “sizably” cuts rates.

Meanwhile, the Fed chair took a circumspect approach in a Friday meeting at Arlington, Virginia, stating that the agency would not be in a hurry to cut rates. He noted that the central bank would observe the extent of the tariff impact and decide what to do next in relation to its inflation goals.

Notably, Michele is not alone in his call for an imminent rate cut; Trump had earlier nudged the Fed to slash funding rates. The pro-Bitcoin president noted that the central bank would be “better off” taking the approach.

Impact of Interest Rate Slash on Bitcoin’s Price

The pioneering cryptocurrency has corrected a staggering 8% in the past two days, imploding in the face of the burgeoning global market’s sideways trend. Nonetheless, quantitative easing would positively impact its price considerably.

Interest rate cuts reduce the cost of borrowing, encouraging investors to amass more capital through debt instruments. This, in turn, increases appetite to dabble in a broader range of investment vehicles, including cryptocurrencies.

Applying simple economics, growing demand at a constant supply would spur a surge in Bitcoin’s price. This simple analogy has historically fueled a Bitcoin price outburst, as seen in September and December 2024, when the Fed last slashed interest rates.

Meanwhile, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes shares a similar sentiment, noting that the imminent funding rate slash would initiate a Bitcoin parabolic expansion, with $250,000 its target before the year’s end.

One Ethereum Whale Suffers $105M Liquidation Despite Desperate Effort to Prevent Loss as ETH Tanks to $1,460

0

A whale’s Ethereum worth $105 million was liquidated after ETH dropped $1,650, despite the whale adding 2,160 ETH to delay the liquidation.

Ethereum faced intensified selling pressure in the past 24 hours, resulting in a sharp 19% decline that brought its price down to $1,460. Over the past month, ETH has dropped by 30%, driven by broader macroeconomic concerns.

This steep descent has unsettled the market and triggered significant liquidation events, including the collapse of a massive whale position tied to a $105 million collateralized loan.

Desperate Measures Fail to Prevent Liquidation

In an attempt to rescue his position, a whale holding a 67,500 ETH collateralized loan with a $1,650 liquidation threshold added new collateral early in the morning.

The wallet added 2,160.52 ETH in three separate transactions: 1000.25 ETH, 1000 ETH, and 160 ETH. This effort slightly improved the collateral ratio from 152.13% to 160.25%. However, the new ratio remained dangerously close to the liquidation threshold of approximately 145%.

The price of ETH continued to slide, falling below the critical $1,650 mark. This drop activated liquidation protocols on the loan. Over the next hour, multiple automated actions occurred, starting with the liquidation of approximately 32,106 ETH to cover 35.3 million DAI.

A second liquidation of roughly 32,076 ETH against the same DAI value followed, and smaller liquidations were recorded again. These events totally liquidated the 67,500 ETH position, fully repaying a 74.4 million DAI loan.

Position Narrowly Avoids Liquidation

While one position was fully liquidated, another whale narrowly avoided a similar fate by adjusting their holdings just in time. This second position originally held 57,000 ETH with a liquidation price set at $1,564. The market drop pushed ETH close to that threshold, posing a serious risk of forced liquidation.

Roughly 90 minutes before hitting that margin, the wallet sold 3,920.8 ETH and exchanged it for 5.775 million DAI. This move helped reduce the overall position size and lowered the liquidation price.

Now holding 53,000 ETH, the adjusted liquidation threshold sits at $1,495, still within a vulnerable range given ongoing market volatility.
