Nigerian Government Files $81.5 Billion Lawsuit Against Binance for Economic Damages

0

The Nigerian government has filed a lawsuit against Binance, seeking $79.5 billion for alleged economic damages linked to its activities in the country.

Authorities claim the cryptocurrency exchange contributed to the nation’s financial instability and is liable for unpaid taxes amounting to $2 billion. Court documents released on Wednesday outlined the case.

Binance Subject to Corporate Tax Obligations

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) argues that Binance maintains a “significant economic presence” in Nigeria, subjecting it to corporate tax obligations. The agency demands tax payments for 2022 and 2023, alongside a 10% annual penalty on unpaid amounts.

Additionally, the FIRS has requested a 26.75% interest rate, reflecting the Central Bank of Nigeria’s lending rate.

Authorities have also linked Binance to the depreciation of Nigeria’s currency, the naira, citing the exchange as a key trading platform for digital transactions involving the local currency.

Meanwhile, Binance, which remains unregistered in Nigeria, has previously stated it is collaborating with the FIRS to resolve potential tax liabilities but has yet to respond to the latest legal action.

Detention of Binance Executives

Recall that Nigerian authorities detained two Binance executives in 2024, citing concerns over cryptocurrency’s impact on the nation’s financial stability. Digital currency platforms had become widely used for naira trading, prompting increased government scrutiny.

Notably, Nigeria dropped money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen and Binance’s head of financial crime compliance. The charges were dismissed two days before Gambaryan’s scheduled court appearance in Abuja. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) withdrew the case, citing health concerns.

Until his release, Gambaryan remained in detention since February 2024, with multiple bail requests denied. The court considered him a flight risk, prolonging his stay in custody. His family raised concerns about his deteriorating health, reporting that he had contracted malaria and suffered from a herniated disk.

While the new lawsuit proceeds, Binance continues to face regulatory pressure in other jurisdictions as well.

Expert Reveals How Holding Just 2,501 XRP Can Land You on the XRP Rich List

0

Edoardo Farina, founder of Alpha Lions Academy, shares insights on how many XRP tokens one needs to hold to join the prestigious ranks of the world’s wealthiest XRP holders.

In numerous videos shared on social media, Farina has explained what it takes to secure a spot among the top XRP holders globally.

XRP Required for the Top 10% Wallets

Farina clarified that owning just 2,501 XRP can place an investor in the top 10% of the largest XRP wallet holders. As of today, 617,768 XRP wallets belong to the top ten holder category. For context, XRP has a massive pool of 6.17 million holders.

At XRP’s current floor price of $2.62, it costs approximately $6,503 to acquire 2,501 tokens and enter the top 10% threshold. However, as of last year, the cost to secure a spot among the top holders was about $1,500.

Notably, as of August 2024, 523,615 wallets met the minimum requirement of the top 10%. Fast forward to six months later, and that number has increased by nearly 100K.

However, Farina pointed out that some individuals may hold multiple wallets, citing that he himself owns up to 20 XRP wallets.

Breaking into the Top 5%

Meanwhile, to join the top 5% of XRP holders, an investor must possess 9,122 XRP, which Farina calls the “shark” level. There are 308,884 wallets in this category.

Farina recommends aspiring investors aim for at least 10,000 XRP, as this level positions them for potential future success. As of now, 10,000 XRP costs $26,000.

While this could be a pricey sum for many, Farina advocates for a dollar-cost averaging (DCA) strategy to reach this amount.

Farina also predicts that those with 10,000 XRP will likely be able to “cash out” sooner than those holding fewer tokens, especially if XRP reaches higher targets, such as $10 to $100 per token.

For context, at a hypothetical valuation of $100 per XRP, those holding 10,000 tokens would become millionaires.

He believes that even smaller holders could eventually join the ranks of the wealthy as scarcity increases, likely influenced by institutions rushing to accumulate XRP for liquidity, as widely anticipated among XRP enthusiasts.

Top 1% Wealthy XRP Holders

For those aiming to reach the prestigious top 1% of XRP holders, 53,212 XRP is the minimum threshold. Presently, acquiring this portfolio comes with a significant capital commitment of $138,351.

However, just four months ago, one could have acquired the same portfolio for only $26K. As of the latest data, only 61,777 wallets are in this exclusive group.

Binance US Reopens USD Deposits and Withdrawals After 18-Month Freeze

0

Binance.US has officially reinstated U.S. dollar services for eligible customers, according to an announcement on its website.

The move follows an 18-month period where the exchange operated solely as a crypto platform.

However, in an announcement on Wednesday, the exchange stated that users can now deposit and withdraw USD through bank transfers, including ACH transactions. The feature will roll out gradually to all eligible customers in the coming days.

Regulatory Challenges and Service Disruptions

Binance.US halted fiat transactions in 2023 due to heightened scrutiny from regulators. The platform disconnected from U.S. banking institutions after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against the exchange, its global affiliate, and co-founder Changpeng Zhao.

The lawsuit accused Binance of operating as an unregistered securities exchange and offering products that allegedly violated SEC regulations.

Meanwhile, the regulatory landscape shifted following the departure of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler.

Acting SEC Chair Mark Uyeda has indicated a more collaborative approach toward cryptocurrency regulations. Under his leadership, the SEC has paused the litigation against Binance.

Moreover, a newly established SEC task force led by Commissioner Hester Peirce is reassessing regulatory enforcement strategies in the crypto sector.

Expanded Services and Trading Features

With USD services restored, Binance.US customers can now trade digital assets using fiat currency. Users can buy and sell crypto with USD through bank transfers, convert funds between USD and crypto, and access USD trading pairs.

The platform has also reintroduced an “Auto-Buy” feature, allowing customers to schedule purchases on a recurring basis.

Beyond fiat transactions, Binance.US has enhanced its trading functionalities. The platform now supports over-the-counter (OTC) trading for orders exceeding $10,000.

Additionally, institutional services have returned, providing trading solutions for firms, asset managers, and other market participants. Advanced users can access various APIs to automate trading strategies.

Legal Developments and SEC Case Pause

In related news, the SEC lawsuit against Binance temporarily halted after a federal judge in Washington, D.C., approved a 60-day stay. The decision came after both parties requested time to assess the findings of the SEC’s newly formed crypto regulatory task force.

The lawsuit, filed in June 2023, alleged that Binance engaged in deceptive practices, including inflating trading volumes and misusing customer funds.

Solana ETF Approval Timeline Goes Live as SEC Enters Multiple SOL ETF Filings Into Federal Register

0

The potential launch of spot-based Solana ETFs in the United States gained momentum after the SEC entered multiple SOL ETF filings in the Federal Register.

The federal securities watchdog officially entered the Solana ETF applications from prospective issuers, such as Grayscale Investments, Canary Capital, VanEck, 21Shares, and Bitwise, in the Federal Register.

Approval Timeline Goes Live

Eleanor Terrett, FOX Business Journalist, revealed this development yesterday in an X post. According to her, the securities regulator officially entered the Solana ETF applications into the Federal Register on February 18.

With the Solana ETF applications live in the federal register, the public can send electronic or paper comments on whether the filings align with the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Comments must be submitted within 21 days after the publication of the filings in the Federal Register.

Additionally, this publication signals the commencement of a 240-day window for the SEC to review and decide whether to approve or deny the spot-based Solana ETF filings. Accordingly, the SEC has until October 16 to issue this decision.

Solana’s Security Concerns

In the meantime, many crypto enthusiasts are pondering whether the SEC would approve any of the Solana ETF applications. This concern stems from the SEC’s previous classification of Solana as a security in its lawsuits against Binance and Coinbase.

The past SEC leadership declined to acknowledge Solana ETF applications due to regulatory uncertainty surrounding SOL through these lawsuits. Notably, the SEC has paused its litigation against Binance until April 14.

Terrett suggested that the current SEC leadership may be anticipating the confirmation of Paul Atkins as permanent chair. Upon confirmation, Atkins may decide whether these non-fraud crypto-related lawsuits would be dismissed.

Atkins is expected to have a screening hearing before the Senate Banking Committee in the coming weeks. Afterward, the full Senate will vote on whether to confirm him as the permanent SEC Chair.

Notably, former SEC Chair Gary Gensler had his screening hearing in March 2021 and confirmed the following month. However, this does not indicate that Atkins’ confirmation timeline will be similar to Gensler’s.

Ultimately, a potential dismissal of the lawsuits labeling Solana as a security could clear the pathway for SOL ETFs’ launch.

World’s First XRP Spot ETF Goes Live in Brazil

0

The Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) has granted the authorization for an XRP spot ETF.

This marks the world’s first exchange-traded fund to invest directly in XRP. The fund remains in its pre-operational phase and currently lists Genial Investimentos as its administrator.

Meanwhile, the product awaits additional documentation and a scheduled trading start date. Notably, the approval reflects Brazil’s regulatory progress in the crypto market.

Notably, the Hashdex Nasdaq XRP index fund received authorization on December 10 of last year. The CVM confirmed the approval without providing extra details about its future operations.

However, Hashdex confirmed the news to a local newsroom and mentioned that the product launch date remains unannounced. Meanwhile, the firm promised to provide more information about trading schedules soon.

Transitioning from regulatory approval to market readiness, the fund’s establishment marks a pioneering step for exchange-traded products involving XRP.

XRP Market Position and Global Outlook

XRP holds a market capitalization of $151 billion and ranks as the third-largest cryptocurrency globally, following Bitcoin and Ethereum. The token presents real-world utility, and institutional interest in XRP continues to grow.

Meanwhile, analysts have estimated that approved XRP ETFs in the United States might attract new investments between $3 billion and $6 billion.

In the U.S., several proposals remain under review. The Rex-Osprey XRP ETF, the Canary XRP ETF, and the 21Shares Core XRP Trust now undergo regulatory scrutiny.

Furthermore, proposed XRP ETFs have attracted significant attention among asset managers and market participants.

U.S. Regulatory Developments and ETF Proposals

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has acknowledged multiple filings related to XRP ETFs. The regulator recognized Bitwise’s proposed XRP ETF as a commodity-based trust share and accepted Cboe BZX Exchange’s bid to list Bitwise’s ETF shares.

Meanwhile, asset managers such as WisdomTree and 21Shares have also submitted their applications for XRP ETFs.

Notably, with the ongoing acknowledgment of XRP ETF filings, the SEC now has a maximum of 240 days from the filing publication in the Federal Register to decide on these proposals.

President Donald Trump Drops Bitcoin and Crypto Achievements After One Month

0

US President Donald Trump has listed some of his achievements one month into office, including ending the former administration’s war on crypto.

Donald Trump officially assumed office as the 47th US president on January 20. A month later, he claims to have achieved burgeoning feats on the artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency fronts.

At the FII Priority Summit in Miami yesterday, Trump claimed to have accelerated innovations in the United States, including cryptocurrency. He highlighted that his pro-crypto stance spurred Bitcoin to multiple all-time highs.

“Bitcoin has set multiple all-time record highs because everyone knows that I’m committed to making America the crypto capital,” President Trump said.

President Donald Trump Ends Joe Biden’s Crypto Tyranny

Meanwhile, Trump also noted that he has signed executive orders to end Joe Biden’s war on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. He highlighted the past administration’s hostility toward the sector amid several indictments brought against it.

The pro-Bitcoin president argued that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was politically motivated in its dealings, suing cryptocurrency-related entities without any just course. Trump revealed that the SEC dropped some of those indictments prior to the election, but the administration had already lost the sector’s support.

Nonetheless, the 47th US president stated that he supported cryptocurrency not for political reasons but because he wanted to be at the forefront of every industry.

Trump’s Pro-Crypto Stance: A Win for Crypto

In truth, the president’s incessant flirtation with the industry has brought notable changes. In addition to catalyzing Bitcoin’s rally from around $70,000 to its current all-time high of $109,312, Trump has made regulatory changes to allow the sector to thrive.

With Gary Gensler and other anti-crypto US leaders resigning, Trump has appointed new executives with a friendly disposition towards the technological innovation. This stance reflects in his selection of Paul Atkins as the new SEC chair and David Sacks as the crypto Czar.

Furthermore, the push to create a national Bitcoin reserve is still underway. Having signed executive orders aiming to make America the crypto capital of the world, the possibility of a Bitcoin stockpile remains high.

Meanwhile, US states are already taking the initiative to create a state-level reserve of the pioneering crypto asset. Today, over 16 states have proposed the idea, which could see $23 billion worth of Bitcoin bought if they all pass.

XRP Shark and Whale Wallets on the Rise as XRP Gains 284% Against Bitcoin in 14 Weeks

0

XRP shark and whale wallets have been on the rise in recent weeks as XRP maintains a strong performance against Bitcoin despite the latest market struggles.

This is according to an assessment from market intelligence firm Santiment. The platform’s recent analysis of the condition of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) ecosystem comes on the back of an impressive rebound secured by XRP yesterday.

XRP up 284% Against Bitcoin Despite Current Downturn

For context, after three consecutive days of persistent losses from Feb. 16 to 18, XRP recorded a recovery push yesterday, spiking by a massive 6.92% to reclaim the $2.7 price level. This marked XRP’s most bullish daily performance this week.

According to Santiment, this uptick triggered a positive 9% gain for XRP on the weekly timeframe, making it one of the few crypto assets to witness a positive performance over the past week. The market intelligence platform then evaluated XRP’s performance against Bitcoin (BTC) over the past few weeks.

For context, with XRP’s 6.9% gain yesterday, Bitcoin only managed to increase by 1.08%. This trend, which sees XRP outperforming Bitcoin only daily timeframes, has been persistent for some time now. Santiment stressed that, with the latest uptick, XRP has now gained 297% against Bitcoin since Nov. 11, 2024.

Notably, recent data confirms that while this rate has since decreased, XRP has still outperformed BTC by a mile since the U.S. presidential election. Particularly, the XRPBTC pair changed hands at 0.00000732 on Nov. 11, 2024. Currently, the pair stands at 0.00002809, indicating an increase of 284.56% in the past three months.

Rise in XRP Shark and Whale Wallets Signal Confidence

Meanwhile, besides the strong performance XRP has had against Bitcoin and the broader crypto market, the XRPL ecosystem is also witnessing other bullish metrics despite the prevalent market turbulence.

Santiment also confirmed that shark and whale XRP wallets holding 100,000 XRP tokens and more have been on the rise since early-December 2024. Within this timeframe, these wallets have increased from 32,958 to 33,219, representing an addition of 261 more wallets in this category.

According to Santiment, this shows that major stakeholders remain confident in XRP’s potential despite the recent pullback. Notably, this confidence has spread across the ecosystem, as The Crypto Basic reported last month that the XRPL welcomed about 511,430 non-empty wallets over a two-month period.

Several catalysts have contributed to this growing optimism among investors, ranging from price projections and bullish developments. For one, the U.S. SEC recently acknowledged filings for XRP ETF products from Grayscale, 21Shares and Bitwise. This has bolstered speculation around an imminent approval.

In addition, yesterday, Brazil welcomed the world’s first XRP ETF. Meanwhile, discussions around XRP securing a place in the proposed U.S. strategic crypto reserve have emerged. Amid these confidence-building developments, XRP has defended the $2 psychological mark. The asset currently trades for $2.7035 at press time.

US SEC Acknowledges Three XRP ETF FIlings in One Day

0

In an interesting development, the U.S. SEC acknowledged three separate 19b-4 filings for spot-based XRP ETFs from Cboe BZX and Nasdaq.

The SEC recognized the filings yesterday in three separate statements. Notably, these exchanges seek to list shares of XRP ETFs from WisdomTree, Canary Capital, and CoinShares.

Request for Public Comments

According to the statement, the SEC called on the public to issue comments on the XRP ETF filings to ascertain whether they are consistent with Section 19(b)(1) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. Interested individuals can send electronic or paper comments within 21 days after the filings are published in the federal register.

Publishing these filings in the federal register automatically opens a 240-day window for the SEC to approve or deny XRP ETF applications from Cboe and Nasdaq on behalf of Canary Capital, WisdomTree, and CoinShares.

SEC Acknowledges Six XRP ETF Applications

These acknowledgments mark the sixth XRP ETF application the SEC has recognized since last week. As previously reported, the SEC acknowledged similar filings from Bitwise, Grayscale, and 21Shares.

The commission acknowledged these filings within a week, bringing the potential launch of a spot-based XRP ETF closer.

Despite the SEC acknowledging multiple XRP ETF filings, many still believe the commission’s lawsuit against Ripple could influence its decision on these applications.

Currently, the SEC is taking significant steps to change its previous enforcement-driven approach. This is reflected in the creation of an internal crypto task force, downsizing of the enforcement unit, and freezing of crypto-related lawsuits like the Binance case.

Why Hasn’t the SEC Halt the Ripple Lawsuit?

XRP community members also expect the SEC to halt proceedings in the Ripple lawsuit. Explaining the reason why the SEC has not paused the Ripple litigation, FOX Business Journalist Eleanor Terrett, citing multiple legal sources, suggested that the commission is only prioritizing cases with immediate deadlines.

According to her, the Ripple case’s next court deadline is April 16. The company will file its reply to the SEC’s appeal argument on this date.

Meanwhile, the XRP community has remained optimistic about the potential launch of at least one XRP ETF this year. The odds of this happening currently stands at 80%, according to data from PolyMarket.

Can XRP Turn $1,000 to $1M? Here are Factors That Could Help

0

Several factors could trigger an XRP rally capable of transforming investors with modest holdings into millionaire status.

Amid the prevalent market-wide uncertainty, XRP has not fared well, battling to transcend $2. However, market watchers remain optimistic. For instance, analyst EGRAG suggested that the recent declines were just an avenue for XRP to fill its symmetrical triangle formation.

Several other market commentators believe an imminent rebound to new heights is on the horizon. However, short-term targets have been modest, ranging from $4 to $6, all representing new all-time highs. Meanwhile, some investors envision a future where XRP could transform their modest investments into fortunes.

These expectations typically factor in long-term price projections that could see XRP hit two to three-digit prices. Interestingly, several factors could trigger such projections. The Crypto Basic recently evaluated the possibility of some of these factors helping XRP transform $1,000 to $1 million.

XRP in US Strategic Reserve

Notably, the first factor into consideration is the inclusion of XRP in a U.S. digital asset reserve. For context, President Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating the creation of a Working Group on crypto.

One of their duties is to evaluate the possibility of creating a strategic “digital asset” reserve for the U.S. However, in an interesting twist, some industry leaders have suggested that XRP could be one of the assets considered for this reserve. Should this happen, we asked ChatGPT about the possible price implications.

In its response, the AI chatbot assumed that the government could allocate about $500 billion to procure XRP for the reserve. Should this occur, ChatGPT predicts that XRP price could reach $27, a price target that EGRAG has persistently championed.

XRP Price Prediction ChatGPT 2
XRP Price Prediction | ChatGPT

However, the question remains, at $27, can XRP transform $1,000 to $1 million? Notably, $1,000 invested into XRP today would amass 370 tokens at the current price of $2.7. If XRP price climbed to $27, these 370 tokens would be worth $9,990. While this presents an over $8,000 yield, it is still far from the $1 million target.

XRP ETF Products Attracting 50% of Bitcoin ETF Inflows

Meanwhile, another factor that could catapult XRP’s price to greater heights is a surge in demand for XRP ETF products after their launch. Notably, the U.S. SEC has already acknowledged 19b-4 filings for several XRP ETFs, including products from Grayscale and 21Shares. This has bolstered chances of an approval.

Should these products secure approval and collectively amass only 50% of Bitcoin ETF inflows in their first year, the price implications could be monumental for XRP. For context, Bitcoin ETFs have commanded $39.98 billion in total inflows since January 2024. If XRP ETFs get 50% of this, they could see $19.99 billion in inflows.

Interestingly, market commentator Zach Rector suggested last month that the impact of capital inflows on XRP’s market cap is not always straightforward. However, he found that there is an average multiplier effect of 212x on XRP’s market cap for every $1 in capital inflows.

Applying this multiplier on $19.99 billion in ETF inflows would add an extra $4.23 trillion to XRP’s market cap. With the current valuation sitting at $156 billion, adding this increase would push XRP’s market cap to $4.393 trillion. Assuming circulating supply remains stable at 57.8 billion, this valuation would translate to an XRP price of $76.

At a price of $76, the 370 tokens procured from investing $1,000 in XRP today would be worth $28,120. This would mark returns of $27,000, but still far from the $1 million mark. Essentially, for XRP to transform $1,000 to $1 million, its price must rise to $2,702, with a market cap of $156 trillion. This is highly unlikely to occur.

Experts Say XRP to $10,000 Isn’t Crazy, It’s Conservative

0

Prominent entities in the XRP community have reignited discussions on the long-term valuation of the token.

In particular, they are suggesting that a $10,000 price target might not just be realistic for XRP but could be conservative.

Notably, leading the conversation this time are the Rowen Exchange and John Squire, a commentator with 510K followers on X. The argument centers around institutional adoption, supply dynamics, and XRP’s potential role in global finance.

How Institutional Adoption Could Drive XRP to $10,000

One of the strongest cases for XRP’s explosive growth is institutional adoption. Rowen Exchange argues that if major banks, payment processors, and governments increasingly use XRP for cross-border settlements, demand could surge, forcing a price increase.

It noted that XRP’s total supply is 100 billion tokens. Meanwhile, the actual circulating supply is about half that quantity due to escrow releases and long-term holdings.

The theory is that if institutions begin hoarding XRP for liquidity purposes, a supply squeeze could follow, driving prices up exponentially.

Rowen Exchange believes that, unlike retail-driven speculation, institutional usage brings sustained liquidity and volume, pushing prices higher over time.

The exchange uses these arguments to stress that a $10,000 price is not crazy but even a conservative estimate for XRP’s future. Notably, XRP is currently selling at $2.76, and reaching $10,000 would require an astonishing growth of 362,218%.

At this price, XRP’s market cap would be around 1 quadrillion dollars. However, in his commentary, John Squire stressed that market cap analysis is irrelevant in XRP’s case.

XRP to $10000 is not crazy
XRP to $10000 is not crazy

“Market Cap Does Not Matter”

To explain why he believes XRP is destined to reach $10,000, John created a hypothetical scenario based on the global financial market.

John painted a scenario where a tokenized global economy is worth 1 to 2 quadrillion dollars, and XRP handles just 10% of that. To support this level of trading and trillions in daily settlements, XRP’s price “must reach” $10,000 or more.

John also pointed out that moving $1 trillion daily doesn’t require $1 trillion in liquidity; just $20 billion will suffice. This perspective assumes that 2 million XRP tokens, each worth $10,000, are used up to 50 times daily to execute $1 trillion in transactions.

Another argument John made for why the $10,000 price “is attainable” is XRP’s circulating supply of only 57.7 billion tokens.

According to John, for global liquidity to function properly, the price must be high enough to accommodate massive volumes. So, he reiterates that market cap analysis doesn’t matter.

The Bottom Line

These arguments suggest that if XRP becomes the backbone of institutional liquidity and global settlements, reaching $10,000 might not be speculative—it could be a conservative estimate.

However, critics continue to dismiss these arguments as wishful thinking rather than anything concrete.
