The cross-chain NFT marketplace will present a conceptual work by a young Russian artist that reflects the relationship between humans and money in the rapidly changing world of high technology.
On March 4th, the NFT STARS marketplace will be conducting a new celebrity drop for a very unusual artist. Dasha Plesen is a young, Moscow-based bio-artist and alumnae of the British Higher School of Art and Design, Fine Art faculty. Since completing the Foundation course, she has been developing a unique methodology for the artistic cultivation of microorganisms growing in different conditions and states. By collecting invisible spores from the air and the surroundings and manipulating them with artificial and natural colors, Dasha experiments with uncontrolled biological growth and new textures.
Presented in the drop will be a new piece of artwork that was created between 14:30 on February 17th and 10:30 on February 21st. “Liquor btc.spinalis” is based around an algorithm that allows you to capture every change in the Bitcoin exchange rate and reproduce a sound signal at a frequency of 528 Hz that can be heard through an amplifier. A connected petri dish with colonies of bacteria taken from the body of the artist and from paper money symbolizes a living system. Like a digital heartbeat and the pulsation of cerebrospinal fluid inside the body (liquor), a non-human agent becomes a test subject in a complex system of relationships between the digital and the organic. Every signal in the form of an electric discharge penetrates the colonies, affecting their growth function and forever changing their nature.
Dasha’s unusual works are not easily accepted by everyone, which she understands perfectly. “If you ask a person to imagine mold and colonies of bacteria, most likely, these images will be associated with something unpleasant, repulsive, smelly and dangerous. I try to break this stereotype, showing that beauty lies everywhere, even in ordinary mold”.
