A re-evaluation of Quincy Jones’ famous XRP commentary shows how much volume the XRPL needs to push XRP price to three digits.
Jones Suggests XRP Value Tied to XRPL Activity
For context, back in 2021, Quincy Jones, a former Corda developer, shared an interesting take on XRP’s potential value. Specifically, he argued that XRP’s price doesn’t stand on its own. Instead, it connects directly to the value of financial instruments issued on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
Jones called XRP the liquidity that bridges assets like bonds, currencies, and equities. He suggested that XRP could climb to ambitious levels, whether $100, $100,000, or even $1 million, depending on how much value issuers decide to put on the network. The more equity and debt issued on XRPL, the higher XRP’s potential worth.
XRPL Eyeing the Growing Tokenization Market
Four years later, the XRP community has revisited Jones’ ideas as tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) gains ground. Ripple executives, including CTO David Schwartz, have touted the XRPL’s potential to dominate the sector. Interestingly, even Bitwise believes buying XRP is a clean way to invest in the future of tokenization.
Notably, the XRPL still plays a small part in the growing tokenization trend. Of the $30.14 billion in tokenized value across blockchains, it holds about $294 million, giving it a 1.75% share, according to data from RWA.xyz. This ranks XRPL as the tenth largest chain for RWAs.
Still, the link between how much value sits on the XRPL and XRP’s market price remains unclear. Essentially, no one has pinned down a formula that connects tokenized assets, liquidity flows, and the token’s valuation.
Google Gemini Assesses XRPL Volume for a $100 XRP Price
However, to assess this, we asked Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, to present a model. Responding, Gemini noted that Jones never offered a precise equation, but it built a hypothetical one around his argument. According to Gemini, XRP’s worth should come from how much value it helps move rather than speculation alone.
Gemini used an XRP circulating supply of about 55 billion tokens. At the $100 price prediction, XRP’s market cap would reach roughly $5.5 trillion. To support this number through utility, XRPL would need to handle an enormous amount of transactions.
To explain further, Gemini introduced the idea of a “valuation ratio.” In simple terms, if a token’s market cap equals 10% of the value it processes in a year, then XRPL would need to move around $55 trillion annually to justify a $5.5 trillion XRP market cap. Notably, this translates to around $150.7 billion a day.
According to Gemini, reaching this milestone would mean that XRPL must become a major part of the global financial system. It would need to process tokenized real estate, commodities, corporate debt, equities, and institutional funds at a level that matches or surpasses existing financial infrastructure.
